Review of Alisal Ranch
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 22, 2024
Alisal offers a unique blend of authenticity - a western ranch filled with thoughtful luxurious amenities. The rooms are recently renovated and spotless. The connection to nature and the ranch animals is restorative. I met a family who has returned the the ranch for 23 yrs. That speaks volumes.

Alisal Ranch is a standout experience; The setting and grounds showcase the unique natural beauty and rich California history of the Santa Ynez Valley.
The rooms are beautifully appointed with the finest quality materials and amenities in a warm, classy western style.
The Oak Room Bar is a great way to start or end your evening; great live entertainment.
Our bartender, Ian, was so charming and knowledgeable.
Jack the Restaurant manager, Maria our dinner server was warm and delightful.
The food quality is excellent and included along with gratuities in the package price. Lovely piano accompaniment to farm fresh locally sourced gourmet ingredients.
The bath robes are unique; fashioned from gorgeous soft indigo denim and lined in cozy luxurious chenille.
The resident mousers, Tom and Jerry are super cute friendly kitties.
The horses and other ranch critters make this a memorable time for animal lovers of all ages.
This was a return visit for us and we plan to return again next May.

Our recent stay at Alisal Ranch was an extraordinary experience, where serene peaceful beauty and understated luxury meets unparalleled service. Right from the start, William, the Director of Front Office, ensured our welcome and checkin was seamless, setting our stay up with high standard for hospitality.

The exceptional service extended to every part of our stay, including our fabulous arrival experience facilitated by the bellman, Justin. His professionalism and warmth made us feel right at home.

In the dining area, servers Abe and Marcos impressed us with their attentive service, and the genuine warmth from Ray and lovely greeting from Gerardo further enriched our visit. Each interaction was a testament to the staff's dedication to making our stay memorable.

The inspiration of the leadership of Kathleen Cochran is quite evident, as her influence is clear in the team’s commitment to ensuring every guest feels exceptionally valued.

Our two-night stay was an absolute dream! We are so deeply grateful for the memories and very eagerly anticipate our return to this remarkable resort.

Thank you to the entire team for making our stay truly unforgettable.

We stayed at Alisal Ranch because it was my daughter's wedding venue. We are generally not very interested in the western theme but we had a great time! The grounds are beautiful and the property is huge. They have spectacular views that reminded me of the rolling hills of Tuscany (think of cows and live oaks instead of houses and italian cypresses. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. The horseback riding activities seemed well executed and organized.

We absolutely love going to Alisal Ranch, and we've been doing it for 24 years now. Our children back then are now adults with children of their own, and it's a wonderful spot for couples, or a family gathering. The beauty of having our own table ready for us at breakfast and dinner without having to make reservations is one of the many highlights of this location. They also have wonderful golf, a large pool, tennis, hiking, horseback riding at all levels on beautiful scenic trails, a sand volleyball court, an activity room for kids, a petting farm, and wood-burning fireplaces in every room. The rate is steep, but well worth the cost for what you get. Breakfast, dinner and complimentary beverages, wines, beer and well drinks are included. It's a tradition my sister's family and my own hope to continue for many years.

Do not book in rainy season! It rained the entire time we were here and they have no indoor horse arena. I had no idea they had such a small horse program and so few activities. Some people would probably consider the food good but they use a lot of salt and cheese and the menu does not change except for the catch of the day. The catch of the day was lobster for one of our days and steak is on the menu every night, so for some people, they would consider it quite good.

I am so sorry that you did not have a good experience at Alisal. We do have a very robust "rainy day program"- offering: Charcuterie Board Making, Margaritas, Guacamole & Salsa making, Cookie Decorating, Cocktail Making, Spirit Tasting, Storytelling, making your own Fish bait, Barnyard arts and crafts to name a few. And I don't quite understand your comment about "small horse program"? We have over 110 horses in our herd with 50 trails to ride on. In addition, we offer private rides, picnic rides, distance rides, Corral Lessons and Horsemanship 101. While I appreciate your feedback on our menu- we do offer four specials per day. If I did not know any better, by what you have described- I would think you stayed at a different ranch. At any rate, we missed the mark with you and for that we deeply apologize.
