We stayed a single night in the Forequarter room. The view was as gorgeous as we expected, and the room is actually a bit larger than some photos suggest. Also, George is an accomplished carpenter, so custom built-ins (a closet, tv shelves, and night stands) make the space incredibly functional. The bath is large and comfortable, and there is even a small private balcony. Everything is impeccably maintained.
Breakfast was outstanding! Homemade french toast with real maple syrup and homemade jam, fresh-picked blueberries and yogurt, and plenty of hot, fresh coffee and interesting conversation got the day off to a great start.
The location is ideal for visiting Peggy's Cove either before or after the tour buses are there, but the real charm of Anchor's Gate is the warmth of the hosts. Nancy and George put us at ease from the moment we arrived, and they offered great suggestions for local restaurants and activities (including the local museum).
We'll definitely return the next time we're in Nova Scotia.
