We spent two nights at the Aspenalt because we were in town for an event with friends. For us, this was a conveneint location. The motel (it is a motel, no more than that) is in two buildings in a parking lot in back of the main street of Basalt. One building is sort of near the Frying Pan River. The other building, where we stayed, is a two story building located right in the parking lot, with a view out back of the quite unkempt rear of a restaurant with discarded furniture, etc. We were on the second floor. In a first floor room privacy and safety might be an issue. The room was clean but quite dated, a 70's motel room. Both check-in and check-out were surly experiences, which I cannot explain. There is a bar and restuarant on the Frying Pan River which is very good, and also very popular. It shares the the parking lot which is is quite rowdy at closing time. (Not a problem for us on this trip, we were there for a party, but might bother others) The motel is very well located in walking distance to everything in downtown Basalt, which is a really cute town with good restaurants.
