First I must say that in many ways the best thing about our rental experience from start to finish was Simona Cappellini of Salogi. She answered every question we had--and we had many--promptly and courteously. From pre-travel scheduling and concerns regarding train and bus transportation, villa-specific questions, and recommendations on where to purchase Tuscan cigars, to the superb onsite maid service and emergency need for jumper cables and ultimately a new car battery— Simona was on top of it all in a way that made us comfortable we were in good hands. We thank her immensely and have already recommended to friends back home that they call on Salogi and ask for Simona for their Tuscany vacation rental needs.
The villa—or farmhouse as it would be more aptly named—was quaint and unpretentious, yet sprawling in its own right. Because of an addition to the original farmhouse, the structure seems to go on and on when walking from the first floor kitchen (which was nicely outfitted, by the way) to the upstairs, through to the covered loggia and large sitting room adjacent to the saltwater pool. The pool was our savior, as the temperatures were extremely high during our June stay and a daily morning and evening dip kept us refreshed.
I Gelsomini was perfect for our group of seven friends who split off during the day, and then came together to spent long evening hours on the covered loggia, listening to Italian music, drinking lemoncello or local wines, and barbequing. The covered loggia is indeed the gathering place on this property. Unfortunately, the beautiful large sitting room adjacent to the loggia and pool was simply too hot to use. The lack of ceiling fans or an air conditioning unit made it impossible to enjoy that space. Another disappointment was the extremely damp lower floor sitting room and bedroom. In stark contrast to the upstairs sitting room “sauna” type of environment, the downstairs sorely was in need of a dehumidifier. Alas, we chalked it up to the Italian way versus our spoiled American ways!
The farmhouse is in a perfect location for convenience to everything Tuscan, without spending all of your time in a car or on a train. The location easily allows for day trips to Cinque Terre, Viareggio, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Chianti, Montecatini Terme and Alto, and more. And, of course, close by Lucca is simply delightful.
I Gelsomini provided the ideal backdrop for our Tuscan holiday.
Just retuned from a lovely week at villa I gelsomini. Villa was very comfortable and in a lovely location. Booked through Salogi villas which was very easy and Simona was most helpful . The town of Lucca was a 10 minute drive away and was beautiful !
