We had two 6 year olds in our group and they loved this tour. Our guide did a great job making it interesting for both the adults and the kids. It was clear that he loved his job and was excited to share his knowledge of mining.
Our family had a fun time learning about rock gold mining ⛏ and getting to mine using a hammer and chisel. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was a good value in our opinion. Glad we wore helmets for the low ceilings so be prepared to be in somewhat confined spaces. Family friendly and just good fun. We did have to push our car up part of the entry road when leaving due to a bit of snow on the driveway, steep incline and driving a Nissan Altima!! I would recommend all wheel or four wheel drive!! Thanks for a memorable tour.
The guide was awesome, combining knowledge with historical stories. The mine was very well lit aside from a brief demonstration of what working conditions would have been like. In places the ground was slick, and the ceiling low enough to have to duck (we wore hard hats). I hadn't known it would be a part of the tour, but we actually got to work the face of the mine a bit!
We spent less than an hour in the mine, but with before (disclaimer and safety briefing) and after (putting away the hardhats) it takes about 90 minutes.
It looks like maybe the panning lessons aren't offered in the cold season
We were visiting Denver for Thanksgiving. My parents booked the tour. We didn't know what to expect. The tour guide was awesome! He really enjoys his job, and was very knowledgeable of mining operations and rock geology. You get to do some mining on the tour, which was a lot of fun. My family really enjoyed the tour and the drive from Denver was beautiful.
My kids are fascinated with gems and gold. I read about this while searching for a mine tour experience to take them on and Hidee lived up to the ratings here.
The fact you are touring an active mine where the guides show you how miners knew where to go, what to look for and at the end given a chance to mine for a unique souvenir. They do well catering to the kids while also making the tour fascinating for the adults.
A great experience if you are in the area.
This place was great. If you read the negative reviews, (which are very few) they are hilarious. People complain about literally anything.. lol! But, I can say, my visit was fantastic and my almost five year old son loved it! Our tour guide was John, AKA “Squirrel”.. he was a really good guide. Very friendly and helpful to my son and another young boy in the group a little older than my son. He gave them nick names and interacted with them very well. Tip your guides!! People, please, understand that these guides are mostly volunteers.. so it’s common courtesy to tip your guide.
