The views are unprecedented, cheap outing for the family. If narrow winding roads aren’t for you then don’t plan on making this trip. If you love beautiful views for miles make the trip. It was $15 to get up the mountain we didn’t have a national park pass.

Arrive early and make sure you have a confident driver behind the wheel since the roads are narrow with lots of switchbacks. Also, if you are visiting from out of town, make sure you've adjusted to the altitude and give yourself a few days before going up. Stop at Summit Lake on the way up for a nice short walk. This trip we saw big horned sheep on the pathway to the lake. Great views. As you approach the summit, be on the lookout for both big horned sheep and mountain goats that will be just feet away from your car. Even though it's a short hike from the parking lot to the summit, bring water and take your time since you will most likely feel a little winded at 14,000 ft.+! Someone left a sign when we were there, but if you can, bring your own... it was a very cute idea!

The drive up was longer then the drive down. Roads are narrow. The drive is worth it. Beautiful views at the top. Saw marmots and mountain goats.

The twist and turns on the highest paved road in the United States was interesting and exciting. I love to drive on roads like this. If you don't like heights then don't but if you do, it is a must ! Reaching the top was great. Loved being up so high in the sky. 14,130 feet above sea level !

While in Denver for a week attending a conference (where I did not finish my training until 4pm) I was able to take my afternoon to explore Mt. Evans. Gorgeous scenery, magnificent views, completely worth the $15 entrance fee to get above the tree line. The two scenic lakes will take your breath away. Know that the drive is precarious in different sections, the higher you climb the more narrow the road, there are sections where the road becomes uneven and you will need to proceed with caution. Bring a jacket, when I visited in the middle of July, it was 30 degrees chillier on top of the mountain than it was in Denver. The wildflowers were amazing, like nothing I have seen in any other part of the world.
