Some of the less-than-stellar reviews are a little lacking in eloquence on this destination, but they do have some nuggets of truth to them.
As a side note, I did love the gift shop and went haywire in there.
The facility is volunteer-run and obviously the wolves are well-loved. My guide was perky, lively, and brought the wolves' stories to life.
The outhouses are well-maintained and strangely much nicer than the public restrooms in Manitou Springs.
There was ample opportunity to see other wildlife, take some photos, and enjoy nature not really often seen.
Babies and too-young toddlers unable to control their screaming are not recommended.
There are other tours available, much more expensive tours: feeding, alpha, photo sessions, get licked by a wolf, etc. I stuck to the simple tour and had a blast.
Highly recommended.
We appreciate you taking the time to post a review and sharing your thoughts from your visit. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our standard tour and our facilities. We strive to provide a top notch experience while also educating people about wildlife, including current issues for wolves and other wildlife. Please tell your friends and relatives about us and we hope to see you again.
This place is very nice and educational. I wasn't sure if my grumpy 14 year old son would like this place but he and I both loved it. Great guide. Beautiful animals. Informative. Spectacular surroundings. Great cause. Go if you have the chance.
We are so glad to hear that you and your son enjoyed your experience here! Thank you so much for taking the time to submit your review. We appreciate your feedback and support for the wolves and our center.
My wife made reservations for us. After a really long introduction on wolves, the tour started. We have been to other wolf centers and this one had the least information and the fewest animals. It is not very handicap friendly, with loose gravel on the hills and no alternate way to get around.
We are truly sorry that your experience here didn't meet your expectations. Our main purpose is to educate the public about wolves, coyotes, and fox, the issues they face, and how we can help. We do offer handicap assistance when requested by way of a golf cart for those unable to navigate the walkway inside the sanctuary. We take great pride in including in our tours, not just information about the animals that we care for, but also the history of wolves in the US, current events, and how people can be a voice for wolves. Again, we're sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience here. Thank you for taking the time to submit your review.
We were a little disappointed that we didn't get to interact with the wolves. We walked a trail and the staff threw food to them as they talked about them. Don't get me wrong, it was very informative and the staff was super friendly and answered any questions anyone would have. We've been to a wolf sanctuary in Florida where we were able to get into the pens and pet the wolves and interact with them, so that may be why we were disappointed.
Thank you for leaving your feedback! It is very much appreciated. We do have wolf interactions available but they are not available during the standard or feeding tours. They are called our "Interactive Alpha" and "Ultimate Alpha," more information about those interactions can be found on our website at http://www.wolfeducation.org/. Thank you again for your helpful feedback. We are glad to hear that you had a decent experience here.
So happy that we fit this in. We did the 6 pm feeding tour. Learned a lot about wolves in general as well as about the individual wolves in the sanctuary. Our guide conveyed genuine passion and respect for the animals. We plan to do the interactive experience next time we visit.
Thank you very much for the great review! We are proud of what we do and our passionate staff. You will love the interactive tour.
Your visit starts with an hour long propaganda session by radical, left wingers: wolves are good, people are bad. This isn't conservation, but preservation. Boring.
A few wolves in a fenced area. Boring. It is a petting zoo for the staff. You visitors keep to the trail. About as interesting as viewing my neighbor's dog that runs to him for a treat.
Save your money. Go to the zoo.
We are sorry that you did not like the education that was provided. For the many who visit get a great deal from learning and educating them self about wolves and the issues they face. This includes countless schools, scout groups, state park students, vet students and too many to list. We are disappointed that you felt that what we are teaching is incorrect. If you take any time to do your own research about the current issues from not only our facility , but every one out there including the zoo, you will understand that we are all working together to be a voice for not only wolves, but all wildlife.
We will continue to be a voice and not a facility where you only come to see animals and not learn about the plight of wolves. There is education involved to hopefully equal conservation of these amazing animals.
