My friend and I wanted to do a mud hike (wad lopen) and have a little holiday at the same time. I found De Oude Smidse online and arranged a package trip with them, including 3 course dinner, hotel night, mud hike and breakfast. My emails were answered super quickly which was a great first impression. We had a great time during our mini holiday. The mud hike was great and De Oude Smidse as well. The rooms are spotlessly clean, shower pleasant, beds very comfy and the room was perfect. The stairway up to the rooms is a bit steep but if you are travelling with a wheelchair there is an automatic chair to take you up. Some amenities are there, as a bottle of mineral water (although Dutch tap water is great),some shower gel etc and a little bath duck in case you are scared of showering alone. The dinner was simply amazing and made with local products: we could choose a starter, main course and desert and it was perfect! Breakfast was simple (I would say typically Dutch) but yummy. The hosts and the staff were very welcoming and we really felt at home straight away. The seal rescue centre Pieterburen is just 2 km away, but I would recommend having a car with you. We also had a nice walk in the area but there is not much of a night life: more peaceful vast landscapes.More
