After having a bad experience at a Quality Inn and Suites in Canon City, CO, we were impressed with the Econo Lodge here. Nice curb appeal, clean smell and rooms, decently warm hot tub and pool, good continental breakfast, good TV reception. It was just a decent experience.

The only oddity was that the owners live at the hotel and have signs up to ask management's permission for things, like using the grill in the courtyard or even the pool. Regardless, we would stay there again for the price.

The beds were really bad and the pillows were even worse. It was like sleeping on a phone book. The guest up stares were up moving around and the paper thin walls let the sound come through. It has an Old CRT type rather than a flat screen and there was no refrigerator or coffee in the room, our friends had a refrigerator in there room at the same rate. Be sure to ask for one if you get stuck staying hear. The free breakfast was really bad and stale. To top it off we paid way to much In conclusion, This place should be called "The Last Resort"

We made reservations using our GPS and cell phone by calling ahead on our way, because it was getting late, and we had found full motels on the previous night. Since it was EconoLodge, I thought the prices should be reasonable. We booked over the phone even thought the cost was more than what I wanted to pay. Since it was in a tourist area, I thought that all the motels cost more.

It was a little difficult to find and the GPS was not accurate for the location of the motel.

The room was clean and large with a refrigerator and microwave. The room was certainly adequate, and there were no problems with it. The motel had an Indoor pool, hot tub, an exercise room, a sundeck and a picnic area none in which we were interested. We just needed a place to sleep on our trip. These amenities are probably the reason for the higher than expected cost. There was a luggage cart that was simply a flat cart on wheels. It was harder to load than the standard luggage carts with side poles.

The service was excellent. When I inquired about the location of a Catholic church for Mass the next day, Sunday, the clerk immediately knew all about it. I had spoken with him on the phone, and he had said a church was across the street. It was a little harder to find than "across the street."

The breakfast room was adequate, and there were plenty of tables and seats. The breakfast was an average continental breakfast. If one were spending any time in Pagosa Springs, this would be a nice place to stay for several days.

They didn't clean our room on day 2. This doesn't actually bother me that much, but my girlfriend was annoyed. They were apologetic though when we asked for fresh towels.

I did like the hard boiled eggs and bananas in the free breakfast.

This hotel would be a nice enough hotel if someone else owned it! They have pool hours of 3pm - 10pm and we got in late at night and wanted to swim in the morning. Oh, wait then we learn that the check-out time is 10AM??? INSANE! I have never in my life seen earlier than 11am and most are 12 noon these days. The staff was very rude to us and the icing on the cake was the big booger on the wall in my room next to the toilet paper.

Pagosa Springs was beautiful as ever and this town offers few franchised hotels these days most have gone to independent and it has been my experience that the independent hotels are a better value in this town.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else
