Pa-Co-Chu-Puk Campground
Reviewed 16 July 2014

We just got back from 10 days in Colorado, and the campground that I was looking forward to the most turned out to be the biggest disappointment.

I had made a reservation in January for site #267. Nothing on the park's website, nor Google Maps of Google Earth demonstrated that river access is only achievable based on being able to repel off the side of a cliff and thru a jungle of trees. The only way we knew that there we were beside the river was that we could only hear it....from inside the camper safely away from the attacking swarm of mosquitoes.

From the minute we arrived, I felt like a pincushion to the vile bloodsuckers that they are. When talking to the other campers as well as the Park Hosts & Park Rangers, we were left with the impression that this is normal during the summer and the only way to deal with it is either stay inside of continually cover yourself with Deet or some other repellant of choice. I was skeptical about the other campers overstating the mosquito problem, but when officials within the park told me this is how it is....I know we had to move. We were originally set to be there six days, but the people at Ridgway SP were great and got us moved to the Dakota Terrace campground the next morning.

Stayed here for 2 nights towards the end of July. Area is very pretty. Campground was very clean and the spaces very nice. Would definitely stay here again. We stayed with our 28 ft. motorhome. Easy in and out.

We held our family reunion at the spacious pavilion at this park. The scenery was beautiful, the weather as always was gorgeous there, and the facilities were modern, clean, and extensive. We look forward to holding our next reunion at this park. Must bring lots more film!!!!
