Best advice: download the directions from Piney River Ranch website before you go! The drive is bumpy, but well worth it. Just take your time and enjoy the views along the way. We were able to take a last minute horseback ride up the mountain, and loved it! The views are stunning, and sitting outside at the restaurant overlooking the lake was perfect!

We didn't want to do another hike since we wanted a relaxing day, so we researched other recommended places to visit close to Vail. The drive is basically on a rocky road and takes about 40mins to finally get to the ranch. It's a beautiful spot and there was a wedding happening that day. There is a hiking trail, but we didn't do it. We bought a couple of drinks from the restaurant which are pricey. But the view was nice and we even got to see a moose on our way out.

Long drive on gravel keeps so many away and allows the regulars to have a nice and uncrowded day. Really beautiful views. It is a shame to miss this one.

This is a special little hide gem and worth the short but bumpy road drive. Be sure to look at the map on their website prior to going, we did take a wrong turn. Keep to the left when there is a fork in the road.
Beautiful lake with canoes, stunning views, hike and a great place to grab lunch or an early dinner, I was really surprised with how delicious the food tasted. You can bring your own food and eat at a picnic table away from the restraunt.
Do bring a little of everything to wear in your car. Rain can come in and out quickly and make the temperatures rise and fall just as quickly.
