“Comfort and Friendly Service- A Real Value!”
Reviewed 10 March 2012

My son and I recently spent five nights at the Sonnenalp Resort and enjoyed their Alpine package including breakfast, ski life tickets and other amenities. Most outstanding is the quality of the friendly service by all of the staff. You are truly made to feel welcome at this hotel that is run by a family rather than operated by a chain, however good that operating entity might be. while get facilities and services are provided by operations like the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton, the difference at the Sonnenalp is the presence of the owner and the spirit of courtesy and professionalism that he hand his family infuse throughout the entire hotel.

Some specific comments. The ski concierge makes getting on and off the slopes a real pleasure. You need never carry skis, and the boots are warmed each morning. The buffet breakfast is bountiful and abundant. A cheery, "Good Morning, Mr. Snedcof" greeted us each day. The suites are exceptional. Upon request we were upgraded to a Blue Spruce Suite that faced west insuring that the sun flooded our room each afternoon. The spa is elegant with relaxing massages that are just the ticket after a day on the slopes.

It is with real pleasure that I recommend this hotel as the most wonderful place to stay in Vail. - and their granola is super!

We have stayed at the Sonnenalp multiple times and just love it. It is a quaint, friendly, smaller hotel with five star service. The staff is all very friendly and makes an effort to know you by name-your family for the week. This trip we had a little glitch with our room on arrival, however thanks to the professionalism of Jason, the front desk manager and Stefan the GM, we felt very well taken care of in an impossible situation. The hotel and rooms remind one of a Bavarian chalet. The linens and beds are of high quality and very comfortable. A variety of restaurants are available but Ludwig's in hard to beat for a romantic, quiet, gourmet dinner. It is not ski in ski out, but there is a concierge at the bottom of the Vista Bahn chair that will store your skis and equipment as well as a lounge for post skiing refreshments. The only criticism is the spa's physical facility. While clean and nice, they are a bit small and could use some updating. However, the staff and services are second to none. In fact, that is what makes the Sonnenalp, the wonderful people of the highest friendliness and professionalism. You just know that you will be in for a special stay.

We just returned from staying at the Sonnenalp and I can't say enough about how lovely the place is, with every amenity you can think of having. The location is terrific and within an easy walking distance of central Vail and the ski lifts. Our room was wonderful, with a balcony overlooking the pool and mountains, fireplace, heated floors in the bathroom, soaking tub and everything else.

The pool and spa set up were really nice because you can choose to stay inside with the pool or swim outside as it's snowing (heated pool makes that all worthwhile along with an indoor and outdoor hot tub. Nice exercise facility and in the morning, they even have (I'm a snob, I admit it) really good coffee free in the lobby.

The hotel workers could not have been friendlier, from the valet parking to the front desk and the spa workers to the hotel maids were cheery, helpful and went out of their way to see what they could do for you.

A seriously great place to stay.

Just back from yet anothe great stay at the Sonnenalp. Our spacious room had all the amenities, including a gas fireplace and easy chairs and a desk, as always was very clean, and you can't beat heated marble bathroom floors! Who doesn't love a 5 piece marble bathroom? We truly love the service; turndown with fresh cookies and bottled water. From the moment you drive in to the garage the valets are there to assist you and will remember your name. The car storage is heated to 60 degrees so nothing left in your car freezes. The front desk staff is courteous and helpful, as is the concierege. We love the breakfast buffet in the glassed in room surrounded by large pine trees, especially when everything is snow covered. The comfortable bar area with easy chairs and entertainment is wonderful and quiet enough to hear the music and have a conversation. I especially love the spa area with the indoor/outdoor pool, complete spa services and top notch workout equipment! The Sonnenalp also has a mountain concierege service for your skis and ski boots so you don't have to walk around in your boots and carry your skis through town.

We will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: I haven't been in a bad room!

Wonderful hotel and spa! We stayed for a long weekend in October - had a great massage, staff is top-notch. Wonderful breakfast option in the hotel restaurant with a fairly extensive buffet. This hotel is within walking distance of the adorable "Vail Village". We would defintely return.

Thank you for your review and visit.
The Sonnenalp prides itself to being open year around. The shoulder seasons periods in spring and fall are a great time in Vail and offers excellent value here at the Sonnenalp and throughout our village. I hope you can take advantage again in the near future.

The decor is very tasteful, Austrian in flavor, and the after-ski entertainment in the bar area is very enjoyable

Just returned from my first experience at the Sonnenalp...it won't be my last! Upon arrival, I was greeted by two very friendly front desk staff who seemed to know who I was when I arrived (as if they review all names at the start of the day) and answered the few questions that I had. The room was AMAZING!! Nice balcony looking over the outdoor pool and Vail mountain in the background. It had a fireplace, sitting area and a huge bathroom (heated floors!)! Even the soap products were excellent! The indoor pool, spa and gym were EXCELLENT and there was a huge open fireplace were you could read next to. The breakfast in the mornings was something I looked forward to. I cannot say enough great things about the Sonnenalp....I have been coming to Vail for many years and have found my new favorite. The only recommendation I could give really has nothing to do with the excellence of the hotel or it's staff, but with it's partnership at the ski rental place, we were charged for the most expensive ski rental package even though we told the place we did not want that package and the ski rental company was rude to deal with (almost like they were doing us a favor).....I just know that I won't be using them next time. Again, that had nothing to do with the hotel, just it's partner....Looking forward to going back soon!
