Stayed over Thanksgiving while visiting relatives. The room was squeaky clean. The shower was lovely. Very cheery decorations with very wonderful fluffy white towels. The room was very comfortable and the heating worked very well also. Could not have asked for a better experience.

I stayed for five nights at the Clinton Motel in Clinton, Ct in September 2006. The motel is located on East Main Street, which is Route 1, at the intersection of Routes 1 and 145. It is right at the Southeastern edge of Clinton.

The motel was quite adequate with a couple of surprises. The first room I stayed was #2. It was a fine room, with plenty of space for one person, and possibly two. It had a working refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, and excellent shower. There was a table with two chairs, and plenty of space for clothing, plus a working television set with broadcast stations, a few cable stations and remote control. The room was quiet, and the proprietors were pleasant. There were two windows, both of which opened, and a working air conditioner/heater. The room's cost was $50.00 per night which was quite reasonable for this time of year. I would stay again at this motel, in this room.

I opted to stay unexpectedly for a fifth night, but had to stay in a different room, since my room was booked. The second room was room #14. This was a much larger room but it smelled badly of smoke. There was no coffee maker, one of the lamps did not work, and there was no remote control for the television. Only one window opened. The room cost 80 dollars, partly I guess because it was Friday night, and partly because it was larger. However, I would not stay at the motel again without ensuring that the room was as nice as the first room I stayed in. I would check to make sure that it had the amenities listed in the brochure.

I enjoyed Clinton. The town has sidewalks for pedestrians, although the sidewalks do not extend past the town, so for example, if you want to walk to the nearby supermarket, you have to either drive, or walk against traffic on Route 1. It is clear that people want to walk, since they have eked out pathways which the town should formalize into sidewalks. It is also difficult to cross the street at the motel, since although there is a traffic light, there is no pedestrian crosswalk, nor pedestrian signal. So in that regard, Clinton needs to do some work to make the town more welcoming to walkers.

There is a train station for the CT commuter railroad, which makes it possible to connect either to Amtrak or to Metro North in New Haven. However you can only go Southbound in the morning, and Northbound at night.

The proximity to the Long Island Sound is the loveliest thing about Clinton. There is a town beach within walking distance from the motel, which offers opportunities for quiet and for small beach walks and bird watching. There is a much larger state park in neighboring Madison, a short drive away, which offers a beautiful beach, long boardwalk, and activities for kids and adults. It also offers camping. If there were sidewalks or bike lanes, it would be possible to get there without a car, but neither are available right now.

Next to the Clinton Motel there is construction taking place for some kind of mixed-use development. The construction appears to be occasional so it is not clear how much of the construction might affect a traveler's stay.

Clinton is well worth visiting, preferably on the off-season. The Clinton Motel offers reasonable accomodations, provided you check first to make sure that the room contains what is promised.
