We are very discerning travelers and have high standards for our accommodations and food. Rock Hall is 5 stars all the way - the lodge is magnificent in every way. When you first drive up, you see that this is an old estate being brought back to its glory. The attention to detail in the architecture and landscape has been preserved and accentuated by the innkeepers, who have added their own touches of interesting and eclectic treasures that they have collected over the years. The rooms are very large and each has character and detail that make them charming.

But, the most outstanding part of the experience is the people. We met the owner, Michael, and the assistant manager, Darcy, upon our arrival and they immediately made us feel welcome. They are genuine and helpful in pointing out all things to do both at the inn and in surrounding towns. They are sophisticated, but not the least bit pretentious, and they seem genuinely concerned with making their guests welcome and comfortable.

We were celebrating my husband's birthday and Rock Hall provided the perfect escape. When we arrived, Michael greeted us and offered us a delicious welcome of cheese and cocktails. He then suggested a great local restaurant that was right on the mark. The next day, he and Darcy served a fantastic breakfast of fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, freshly made eggs, gravlax, smoked trout, fresh OJ - the whole nine yards. When one guest mentioned that he was not a big fan of eggs, Michael made sure to serve french toast the next day for everyone - and it was outstanding.

We had an in-room couples message that was excellent - very nice staff, well trained and really helped us get into a relaxed mode for a nice Saturday evening out.

If all that was not enough, Rock Hall also has a really cool 3rd floor "playscape" with everything from mini-movie theater (popcorn and candy on hand), to exercise room with machines and weights, to game rooms with billiards, ping pong, fussball, wii and a (free) pinball machine - I think us 40somethings found the pinball machine to be the blast from the past!

Saturday evening, Michael invited us to a complimentary mixology class and although we couldn't stay very long (we had dinner reservations - see below), he invited us for a quick stop in the kitchen where he concocted this delicious watermelon margarita that we did not want to leave (along with phenomenal guacamole). Meanwhile, Darcy was working along side him making sure that everyone had what they needed and was happy and content - WE WERE!!!!!

As my husband and I are "foodies" , we took Michael's suggestion and went about 1/2 hour away to The Inn on the Green - highly highly highly recommend - it is the equivalent of a 26 Zagat rating by NYC standards. Sophisticated cuisine with good service and romantic ambience. Indulge in the tasting menu - it is worth it.

Really, we cannot say enough good things about our weekend at Rock Hall. We made new friends of Michael, Darcy and the guests and we can't wait to return (we need more time to play games as well as explore more of the Berkshires). Do not miss this gem of a lodge and make your reservations today!!!!!

I felt truly pampered. I started with a hot bath and massage which they arranged for me to have in our guest room - complete with a fireplace and the fading afternoon light. Afterward, Michael suggested the perfect restaurant for us and pulled strings to secure a last minute Saturday night reservation. When we returned from dinner, Mike arrived at our room with some after dinner cordials which we enjoyed by the fire. Breakfast the next morning was both delicious and fun. One weekend felt like a true vacation.

What can we say? The house is beautiful, the rooms are large w/ in-room fireplaces. its very romantic. The food is very different and excellent and, if you're up for it, the company of the hosts is well worth you're while. If you're planning to be in the Berkshires, its a worthwhile 30 minute drive drive to Great Barrington. If that's too far, then its a drawback. The 2 restaurants they recommended were about 20-25 min away and amazing, as well. There are so many things to do, you may just want to stay there for the weekend - in summer, tennis, pool, hiking, spa. In winter, an in-house movie theater, all kinds of games/pool room/ping pong, etc, spa (awesome massage), a great library, and, for a B&B, a pretty decent gym.

Rock Hall B&B is really unlike most B&B's. Most are very nice houses, with nice rooms and hopefully good service. Rock hall is in a different category. The house is truly majestic sitting on acres of forest. It is a very large house, really a mansion. The room we stayed in was absolutely marvelous. we stayed in other B&B's on the trip but this place was very special, absolutely worth a visit. Adding to the splendor is the gracious and lovely proprietors, Michael and Stella. They are terrific people who run a great place, Our breakfast from Michael surpassed all expectations. When we fondly remember our time in western Ct. The stay at Rock Hall stands out as a highlight. When next we return to CT. Rock Hall will be a must for us, as it should for you

This was our second visit to Rock Hall (first was in July 2010). Stella and Michael are wonderful hosts. The house and grounds are beautiful. The area has activities all year round. Stella and Michael suggested some wonderful restaurants and activities. We had a wonderful relaxing time.
