The views and the overall conditions were wonderful !!
The layout was to die for every hole was different ,not easy but fair as long as you picked your targets well. The conditions were wonderful the only rub would be the speed of the greens but that calls for ball placement and a delicate touch.
Where to begin? Poor course conditions (3 temporary greens, burned out fairways, tee boxes with little or no grass) and exceedingly slow (glacier paced) rate of play. Suggest they hire both a grounds crew and a marshal and price the golf consistent with the quality of the experience offered. Play here only if you have no other options.
I reserved my tee time online. When I arrived I learned my group would be following a "ladies tournament event". After playing (and then waiting) for 5+ hours we left the golf course without completing our round.
I'm all good if the club wants to have a tournament, but they should provide a buffer in their tee sheet so other groups don't get stuck behind some incredibly slow players. Or at least put a notice on their website indicating there is a tournament in the morning - so let the golfer beware!
I probably won't be returning to Fox Hopyard for fear of another slow round. It's just not fun!
We play this course at least twice a year and have for many years. This week we had 7 golfers and played on Monday, August 24, 2020. The course was in terrible condition. I called the pro shop several days in advance and was told the course had some burn out. The description of "some burn out" vastly understated the conditions of the course. Fairways and greens were very, very bad. We were told the course was not able to water greens and fairways for 5 days after losing power from intense storms that hit that area of Connecticut weeks prior.
Disappointing that the course was not forthcoming with an honest review of the course condition. We travelled 1 hour to play this course and the price of $99 was way, way too much.
This course is in abysmal condition. What little live grass on the tee boxes is crab grass. Dead grass on every hole. Poorly maintained greens.
They appear to have given up on the place.
The Safari Club of Golf played here on September 4. It was our inaugural trip to this fantastic layout with well over one-hundred of our members in attendance.
Unfortunately, the greens had been recently punched, but we knew that going into it, and anyone with a modicum of common golf sense knows these annual maintenance issues are paramount in keeping the golf courses pristine. So no big deal there as the layout and facilities are truly SPECTACULAR.
The WOW factor was in play ALL DAY and we already have members asking if we plan on adding Fox Hopyard to our annual schdule in the future. I guess that sums up the Safari Club's experience pretty well.
