I was attracted to the Staehly Farm for the Wine Tasting venue and the interesting Blueberry wines. The stand was easy to find, and has a nice country home feel to the store. The wine bar for tasting is wide and can accommodate a large group, probably 12 or more at a time. The store is not large, providing Jams and jarred fruits. you will not spend a lot of time here. maybe 30-45 minutes. They also have a Greenhouse to walk through to buy a variety of plants as well.
Note: they have a single port-a-potty, with an outdoor sink.
I am so glad we came back to check this winery out this summer! The wines were fantastic! I especially loved the new tasting with the Seasonal Wines! Pear, Apple-Raspberry, and Peach! They were all SO delicious!! I didn't love the Rhubarb, but my husband did!
We ended up taking home a bottle of Plum & a bottle of Peach! Looking forward to opening those!!
This isn’t ‘wine’, it’s fermented fruit juice - apple, pear, berry, etc. it’s all sweet and pretty ’not’ wine! If you like real wine, this is not the place to go.
Out for a day in East Haddam? On your way to Gillette castle? This winery is a great little stop off. And you can take some to go for your hike. The views of the following amazing. The wine is decent for a Connecticut wine. If you’re up to something else in town this is definitely a place to stop.
We visited this Winery to get our wine trail passport stamped, they specialize in many fruit wines, apple peach and pear for example, they arn't bad but i am not a fruit type wine drinker i perfer grape wine, however the wines we not that bad. very clean and great people serving the wine.
As travelers on the Connecticut Wine Trail, we have come to have certain expectations as to what will be offered in a wine tasting. The number one expectation is wine made from grapes. This farm makes wine from apples and other fruits, but not grapes. If you like syrupy sweet drinks, this if for you.
I guess that they technically make wine. But the Wine Trial book should tell members that they will get fruit wines, not grape wines.
This is also not a very scenic spot
