This is a beautiful historic home on the CT River in Middle Haddam. I'm from CT but was not very familiar with the Haddam area and as it turns out this was one of the most delightful surprises. The area is beautiful and very well suited for those that enjoy an active lifestyle, there are beautiful walking and biking trails near by and even though we didn't get a chance to kayak on the river, the owner makes available an abundant supply of kayaks for any guest to use. We did a sunset cruise on the river and the captain was able to pick us up right on the house's river dock which was very convenient. The house iteself is very comfortable, I loved the large porch overlooking the river, it was very peaceful. The house is very well stocked, better than most homes I've rented in the past so you don't have to worry about anything upon arrival. The owner lives in a separate house on the property, she is very helpful, providing guides, menus and other helpful information to make your stay as pleasant as possilbe. The only thing I found that I didn't like was that the master bed was very high off the ground, this was done to allow a river view directly from the bed, but I found it uncomfortale getting in an out of bed. Having 3 teenage boys I would have also appreciated more TV sets, the house only has one TV. Being a historic home there are also more rules than most rental homes, I suggest that anyone planning rental read the full set of rules before renting. Nonetheless the owner is very accomodating and flexible regarding many of them. The owner keeps a log book of previous guest comments and from reading them I gather that everyone who has rented this home has had a delightful experience, you won't be dissappointed.
