Upon reading an excellent review in the local newspaper, we went to Zohara and loved it. The waitstaff offered to explain the menu and were excellent at answering questions to some items about which we were unfamiliar. Much of the menu are tapas in nature, meant to be shared. We had a variety of items (Humus Tahini to go with our complementary pita bread, Moroccan Cigars (lamb wrapped in fried phyllo), Lamb Bacon, Lamb Sausage, and new peach dish with feta cheese. For dessert we had Chocolate Hazelnut Baklava and Malabi (a custard dish). Also had a Moroccan Syrah wine. Everything was great, though my favorites were the Moroccan Cigars, Lamb Sausage, Lamb Bacon, and Baklavah. We'll be back. There was a lot more to explore on this menu.

Wonderful atmosphere! Although most diners chose to sit outside on a beautiful day, we opted for the spacious dining room inside. As one who has been to Israel many times and enjoys authentic Mediterranean food, Zohara does not disappoint. The hummus and Baba Ganoush were first rate. The artichoke we ordered was not quite there, but this was a small blip on a beautifully presented and scrumptious meal.
The service was friendly, helpful and very gracious. Highly recommended!

This was my second time at Zohara. I gave it a second try because the first time I tried it was opening weekend, and that's always a tough time to try a restaurant. Our waiter was good, though a bit distracted (understandably as they were packed) and forgot us for a while before we got to order drinks, but very well versed on the menu and especially on gluten free options (which was most of the menu!). Our starters were the best part of the meal. The house made hummus is amazing and the grilled Halumi cheese was super yummy as well, but the rest of the food was underwhelming to say the least. There just wasn't enough flavor or spice in my husband's seafood stew, or in my octopus entree. Granted octopus is not for everyone, but I think they must have used a sous vide method instead of grilling, and it was mush on top of gigante beans mush. It made me sad.
That said, the atmosphere was great. The decor and openness of the inside area is beautiful and the outside patio is perfection.
I just want the food to be better.

If you like Middle Eastern and Mediterranean foods, be sure to try Zohara. On a busy night, you may be offered seats at the counter by the kitchen -- take them. It's really fun to watch the food being prepared, and you get to see what the various dishes are like. There are lots of Israeli favorites that we thought were very nicely prepared. Food is very ample; our friends who ordered entrees found there was too much to eat (even the hearty eater in the group). We opted for a small plate and a salad apiece, and found that these were perfectly adequate for dinner. Moroccan cigars were three very large roll-ups of spiced ground lamb with tahini dip. Chicken kabob was tasty but not "hot" despite the harissa glaze. Israeli salad and mizuna salad were both delicious. We had a wonderful server.

Zohara is the latest opening by the Doro group in West Hartford. As usual it is very well done and very well run. Great bar and bartenders who know their products including the food. Lots of people eating at the bar.
None of us were familiar with most items. Shockingly happy with every plate. I never really liked humus until I had theirs. Moroccan Carrots…really, carrots. YES really good. Lamb cigars, lamb bacon. It goes on and on. It’s great.
Small plates, large plates, surprisingly different tastes.
It’s a nice spot to hang, duck in and out of, sit down for dinner. Don’t miss it.
