We arrived about 20 minutes before closing time. The guides gave us a short tour of the building. A fascinating place, full of history of the State of Delaware, and American History in general. Was well worth it- would go back for the longer tour.

We got a short tour of the Old State House from a knowledgeable guide. The building is not very large, but it was really interesting to see how Delaware government got its start in just a couple small, shared rooms. There is no reason not to stop in and check it out. The park guides throughout historic Dover were really incredible and friendly.

Stopped here while we were waiting for the walking tour of the Green to begin and were immediately greeted by Dennis who proceeded to give us a very succinct and interesting tour of the building and Delaware history. The tour was succinct because we only had 20 minutes but he would have told us much more. Also saw an interesting life size replica of the document in which Delaware ratified the Constitution making Delaware the first state. Well worth a visit!

A stop in the area has to include the Old State House. Hear about the history of Delaware and see the different chambers of the Old State House and artifacts. There are tour guides who will talk to you about the history of the Old State House, court cases, and the history of the state capital. There are also special programs which happen here and great place to come during Dover Days!

The Old Statehouse is located on the Green in downtown Dover and was the Capitol building at one time. We had planned just to have a quick look inside, but as soon as we entered, a member of staff welcomed us and immediately took us on a very informative short tour of the building, lasting about 30 minutes. The building has been fully restored to how it looked when it served as the Capitol and it was really interesting not only to see the inside but also to hear the history of the events which took place within the building. You are allowed to take photographs as you go round. The tour was really informative and just about the right amount of information given. It was absolutely FREE but donations are welcomed as you leave.
