Ask for a room in the new wing ... clean and up to date. Some rooms have views of the inlet waterway with comfortable beds and refrigerator in the room. The grounds of the property are nice with a pool and hot tub. They also have a marina on the property where you can rent boats or take a guided Manatee tour (the rental rates seemed very reasonable). The resort is nice to hang out and walk around and see the real Florida ... not all touristy. We didn't golf but heard that the golfing and golf rates were really good.

We were surprised with how much the resort had to offer for such a reasonable price. All the buildings face the river with a large plush lawn in between. We were able to tie up our small boat right outside our room. The location was great as it was very close to fresh springs where the manatees are. The on-site dive shop was very helpful in getting us oriented before we took our boat out. They also rent canoes/kayaks and boats. The pool was large enough that it didn't feel crowded on a busy holiday weekend and we enjoyed the tiki bar and live music in the afternoon.
The room was nicely appointed and recently updated. We were surprised to find a small fridge in our standard room, which wasn't listed. For recreation and family fun, there was croquet and horseshoes set up as well as a beach volleyball court off of the pool. There were also kids fishing off the seawall. We would've loved to try the golf and spa but ran out of time, so we are planning to stay longer next time. It is a great weekend getaway spot.

This hotel appears to be the nicest in Crystal River. We enjoyed our visit a lot, but our room was honestly just ok. It was an older place, but was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again to swim with the manatees, but would not make a week of it. Pool was very nice and location good for manatee tours.

We wanted to stay in a resort near Homosassa State Park. We drove through Homosassa and Crystal River and came upon the Plantaion resort. It looked just like a plantation you would find in Gone With the Wind. I walked into the front desk and the clerk gave us a room with a patio with a King bed, fridge, and microwave for $109 per nite plus tax. We felt it was a great price for such an elegant resort. The pool area was beautiful. The pool was heated which was great because it was about 50 degrees the night we stayed. It also had an outdoor hottub that was wonderful except that it turned my blonde hair green from the chlorine (that was the only negative of our stay). It is located on the river connecting to the gulf. It is a sprwaling resort with gorgeous well maintained grounds and it's own golf course. The Plantation is the ONLY 4 star plus resort in the area. A hidden gem with fantastic employees in the middle of the Florida country side. There were manatees in the river surroundiung the property. Great food and super fast room service. I would recommend this property to couples or singels lookeing for a quiet getaway to an uoscale property outside of the crazy Tampa tourist area. This is real Florida (even though you feel like you are on a Georgia Plantation). Super large rooms and very quiet. Never heard another guest. Rooms also had individually controlled heat and central air. Will definetly return.

Okay, we recently decided to stay here for 2 nights while we were in CR to snorkel with the manatees. The location is convenient, and the property is nicely laid out. Yes, it is an older resort, but all in all the public spaces seem to be nicely kept. We stayed in the new wing in a king (Expedia rate $104/nite), so we thought this was good. The room was clean and newly renovated. After some research my husband was able to hook us up to broadband for $10/day. We thought the room was quite comfortable for the money. There were a few things that were disappointing: (1) walls thin -when our neighbors came back we could hear them quite well along with their tv at 6 am.; (2) the heat fan blew loudly; (3) no refrigerator in the room; and (4) no ice machine on our floor, had to go upstairs for ice. We decided to make things easy for dinner on the first night and ate in the dinning room. The service was good. Both of us being in the restaurant business, thought several things to be disappointing. We concluded that either there wasn't any management or they needed some serious pointers! We were told that they were "out of ALL WINE", no wine list!!!! WOW!!!! We were told that we could have a glass of house wine or buy a bottle of that (Robert Mondavi version, I think?). We ordered the clams as an appetizer, and the waitress came back after taking our order and said that they were out. So, we chose something else. I ordered the grouper with "mango salsa." Call me crazy but I could swear that the salsa was either canned fruit cocktail chopped, minus the cherries, or possibly the syrup with chopped up melon from the breakfast buffet? Not too impressive being a Saturday night!!! So, knowing these things, we probably won't spend the money there the next time we return. We did find several good places around the area to eat. We ventured out to Pecks and had steamed blue crab for lunch (which was AWESOME!!!), and we headed to Charlies for stone crab (the only place around that still had them on Sunday) for dinner. All in all we had a good experience at the resort and will return, but we will do some things differently.
