Owner description: Stetson Mansion is a spectacular Victorian mansion built for famed hat maker and philanthropist John B Stetson in 1886. Situated right between Orlando and Daytona in DeLand makes it convenient for all visiting the central Florida area. This is Florida's first luxury estate and houses some of the most beautiful and intricate parquet floors in the world. The mansion has hosted such noted guests as President Cleveland, King Edward VII, the Astors, the Vanderbilts, Louis C Tiffany and Thomas Edison. In fact this is one of the first homes in the world to be designed and built with Edison electricity and Mr Edison oversaw the install himself. This is not your typical Victorian mansion though. The owners have painstakingly renovated every square inch of the 10,000 sq foot masterpiece while incorporating today's modern conveniences. All this was done without compromising the architectural or historical integrity. Every room on every one of the three floors is magnificently decorated and every room features a different style floor and window design. There is not one room that is off limits for visitors to see on their guided tour, you get to see it all including the owner's suite and the original 1886 schoolhouse which has been lovingly restored and converted to a "Zen"like cottage. There is also a beautiful meditation garden, gazebo and pool area for visitors to enjoy. Reservations are required $20-$30 per person $10 for children. Payment is cash or check at the door and we do charge applicable sales tax.

I've wanted to see this home ever since moving to FL in 1979 but it wasn't open to the public until after JT Thompson and his partner Michael bought and lovingly restored this old home. They were able to save most of the original features, and Victorian era antiques are plentiful in the home. I took the tour given by JT at Christmas time this year. The tour is very thorough...you can see the whole house, and a tour given by the owner is always great, because they can answer any questions regarding restoration, history of the house, etc. I hope to make it back next year as well!

I toured the incredible mansion Dec.17th with my daughter, granddaughter and family friend. We were fortunate to have JT guide the tour. He is humorous, articulate, extremely knowledgeable as to the history and along with his partner restored the mansion to it's current beauty. JT also decorated each room for Christmas, which in it's self is beyond amazing. Everyone needs to take this tour. I plan to return this Thursday with my brothers. Can't wait to see it again!

You must visit this gorgeously renovated mansion formerly owned by the Stetson Family, popular for their legendary hats. The new owners have taken extraordinary efforts to keep the original flavor of the home. Tours are conducted by the owners and reservations are suggested. We visited during the Christmas holiday and were just blown away by the beautiful decorations. The Christmas decorations remain up until mid-January, so there is still time to visit. Even if you aren't able to visit during the Christmas holidays, don't cross this off your list.
Learning the history of the home, appreciating the renovations and meeting the owners is worth the admission price.

The Stetson Mansion is an experience no one should miss during the Christmas season. The two owners took an 1886 mansion owned by John B Stetson which was in disrepair and did a complete renovation themselves. It's actually their home, and when you're on the almost 2-hour tour, you feel like you're sharing a personal part of the owners' lives, which, in fact you are... their ideas, imagination, and their struggle in accomplishing an almost impossible project. The combination architecture is most intersting; the original interior is beautiful, the interior decorating is unique and blends beautifully, but what has been done with the Christmas decorations is indescribly beautiful! My husband enjoyed the tour as much as I. It's something you should add to you're Bucket List! You'll walk away amazed at what two young men can accomplish.

We highly recommend seeing this fantastic restored mansion. It is not just a show place, but the home of two lovely gentlemen one of whom decorated the whole house single handed. Took him five weeks. You are greeted on the front porch and ushered into the sitting room with the smell of fresh balsam trees in the air. The home is restored to perfection and the Christmas decorations were exquisite. If you can get there before Jan 15th (you need a reservation) you can experience the holiday decor, if not it is still worth seeing.
