“Destin During a Tropical Storm”
Reviewed 28 September 2011

This was our first visit to the Sea Oats Motel and I wouldn't hesitate to return. We had a room with 2 queen beds and a kitchenette on the 2nd floor of the building. The view from our private balcony was wonderful. There was a tropical storm going on at the time but we didn't want to cancel our trip so we braved it out at the Sea Oats. Checking in was easy and our room was clean. The kitchenette was clean but could have used a little more updating. But it was fine. We had a working a/c, a big fridge, stove and kitchen supplies. The beds were very comfortable. We had satellite tv and it worked fine. Never lost power in the motel though some places along the water did. We had a wonderful view. I would recommend the top floor if you want privacy. The ground floor patios are not private at all. The bathroom was a little small but it was clean and worked great. They don't have maid service so if you want fresh towels or any other supplies like toilet paper or soap just go to the front desk and ask them. You bring your dirty towels and exchange for clean ones. It worked for us! We did not get to use the pool because of the storm but it looked nice! They also had lots of watercraft stuff to use when the weather is cooperating. The beach was very nice even with the storm. We originally were only staying for 2 nights but extended it a 3rd night. Had a great time and can't wait to go back when there is no tropical storm going through the area! We stayed in Room 16.

Room Tip: Choose the 2nd floor if you prefer privacy and a better view of the ocean.

The room was clean and appeared to up recently updated. Staff was friendly and helpful especially Rocky the cat. Great value for being right on the beach. Chair and umbrella rental a bit on the pricy side. Will go back

We just returned from a little slice of heaven known as Destin Florida. For the last 18 years we have stayed at the hotel itself but switched this year. We stayed in M-4, which is not the hotel but is right beside it. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo. It is very clean and has a great updated kitchen....not that we did much cooking, but it sure was equipped for it! It also has a washer and dryer which makes a huge difference. There were televisions in every bedroom and a nice big screen in the living room. I believe the dining table sat six. The only, and I do mean only complaint we had was that the air conditioner was not working too well. This can get pretty ugly with two women and "power surges"! Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

The icing on the cake is how close you are to the incredible ocean. I am not exaggerating when I say that it is less than 20 steps to the sand. We have always set up a "tent" and used that instead of umbrella rentals. Please let me stress that we ALWAYS ask permission first and set it as far back as possible. We have never been told no but I can only speak for this particular place.

I have written at length about Sea Oats so I will not repeat myself (older but clean and you will NEVER find beach access like this anywhere ). We did try a recommended place for the first time this year and it was very good. Dewey's. The fried shrimp was probably some of the best I have had in awhile. So, you won't go wrong with either of these places if you are someone who is coming for the beach and not to have your hand held by wait staff. That is what your sweetie is for! Same time next year!

This was our first visit to the Sea Oats Motel. We stayed 2 nights on the ground level which is great for beach access. Our room (9B) had been remodeled (updated) and very clean. The ladies at the front desk were very nice (Mary, Cindy, and Kielie) and very helpful anytime we needed anything or just had a question. The part of town where Sea Oats is located is very nice and everyone we came across was very friendly. Before we checked out we went a head and booked 3 nights for Labor Day weekend. I would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Destin. It's perfect and not to mention waaaaay cheaper per night than anywhere else you are going to find on the beach. Just give it a chance..I promise you will not regret it.

Room Tip: If it's beach access you are looking for..go for the ground level...although both levels are gre...

This motel looks a lot better in person than the website. We were able to check in early with no extra charge. The rooms looked as if they had been recently upgraded. I stayed on the second floor and the view from the balcony was amazing,. Located behind the property was the private access beach which is less crowded. Not too far from the heart of Destin. I loved it here and would stay again!!

Touted as "the last motel on Destin beach", it was much nicer than the cramped motels of the old days. Recently remodeled with tile floors, comfy beds, clean fresh cabinets, and bath elements, with a good sized balcony directly on the beach, made this special. The owner keeps this place pristine, and his staff are helpful and friendly. We fully cooked in our unit, and enjoyed our stay thoroughly. The sea was so close you could recognize faces of those in the surf! All our friends were staying in the hubbub of Sandestin Hilton, without a view, and with SO MANY other people. We enjoyed our increased beach space, wonderful view, clean and fresh accommodations at a reasonable price. Con: End unit by pool lacked full privacy, but putting beach towels on the end rail helped a lot. No dishwasher, but it was not a problem for us w/ only 2 people.

Room Tip: 2nd floor kitchenette was very nice.

My husband and I recently stayed at Sea Oats motel for a short beach trip. We were in room 106, which has 2 queen beds and a full kitchen, and a furnished patio that opens directly to the beach. I loved every minute of our vacation, and especially liked being right on the beach and having an amazing view from our room. We also found the full kitchen to be very useful for storing fresh food (and beer/liquor) in the fridge & making breakfast in the morning. Pots, pans, spatulas, cooking utensils, plates, and glasses were all provided. Paper towels and coffee filters are not provided in the room, but coffee filters are available at the front desk free of charge. (There is also a restaurant, The Crab Trap, that is within walking distance on the beach. We had a very enjoyable meal there & enjoyed our quiet walk back to the motel.)

Room Tip: Most first floor rooms have sliding glass doors that open directly to the beach.
