The Good - The activities are great. George who runs "water sports" is fantastic and we ended up doing most of the activities he has to offer.

The Not So Good - The villa we rented had roaches (not the end of the world - fairly standard in Florida), the TV did not work, we were given only two towels for a family of 4, the blender did not work, the washer/dryer did not work and was never fixed after several attempts, several lights were out, the upstairs phone did not work, and the internet was so slow it was non usable. Add to that there are 4 restaurants but they only are open one at a time with the same menu at every serving and we ended up leaving early. One night we got to "Tom's" for dinner at 4:58 PM and we were turned away as they were "closed". They opened up at 5:00PM for dinner and the bar had been open since 4:00 - They actually sent us away because we, based on their clock, were 120 seconds early. Breakfast every morning had the exact same food - much of it cold, lunch was only served outside and had a very limited menu. Going off property meant a minimum 20 min ride either north or south.
Last point - when I brought up my concerns to Zach, the front desk manager, he had a bit of an attitude and offered me a free breakfast. I complain about limited food choices and he offers me a free breakfast - not sure if he did this to be passive aggressive or if he's just really bad at his job?

If you go for a few days then you should be OK but you should not have 4 diamond expectations.

Super chill spot for a quick get away. Pool area is great (offering an adult only pool as well). Fishing and water sports are easyily acessible on the property and Key West is 40 minutes away.

Booked a 3-night stay in a regular room at Hawks Cay. Upon arrival was upgraded to a villa with a private pool in the Sanctuary. Never been upgraded before anywhere. What a wonderful surprise! We couldn't get over how beautiful the villa was. We loved every minute of it and wished we had booked our entire week's stay in the Keys at Hawks Cay instead of dividing the week between two different hotels. Due to the offseason, the resort was not very busy, which was kind of nice, and the service was great. Liked the complimentary shuttle service. Was impressed with the cleanliness of the grounds, no litter, landscaping maintenance, raking of the sand, friendliness of the staff, cleanliness of the ocean lagoon. The pool and firepit are beautiful. The entire resort is picturesque. Ate one breakfast and one lunch on site. It was a little pricey as other reviewers mention, but the food was good. There are restaurants a few miles away in either direction of US1, so you do have other options. With our villa having a full kitchen, we were able to make our own breakfasts, lunches and snacks some, which was convenient. Unfortunately, Tom's Harbor House was closed during our stay. Would like to have tried it for lunch or dinner. Definitely plan to return to Hawks Cay next time we are in the Keys. Highly recommended it!

Spent 6 days in 7223 Villa recently. Originally booked in Sunset Village, which was lovely, but due to problem with couch we were upgraded to Sanctuary Villas.
Villa was very spacious, comfortable and cool with small pool. Beds very comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped. Towels changed everyday and trash collected.
We found staff at Hawks Cay very friendly and helpful from initial booking with Kate. Service was excellent throughout.
We did the snorkeling trip and also kayaking around Duck Key - all recommended, again staff very good. Entertainment and food at Beach Grill very enjoyable. All the Pools were excellent, only complaint was the water temperature - too warm.
Hawks cay is a very good resort, well maintained and very clean. It is an excellent place to base yourself in the keys- only 1hr from Key West. We would highly recommend it and hope to return.

The Sanctuary at Hawks Cay turned out to be a great choice for our family, which includes 3 teenage boys. We weren't sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised by the villa (#7223). It was big, clean and the beds were very comfortable. The private pool got a lot of use since it was very hot during our stay. Having a full kitchen allowed us to stock the fridge and keep the boys well fed without breaking the bank. It was great to wake up to a full pot of coffee every day. This unit is an end unit so it was very quiet. Free internet was nice too (should always be free!) and the flat screen tv's in every room let us keep up to date on world cup soccer and wimbledon tennis during our stay. We made use of the tennis courts every day and our boys loved hanging out by the main pool at night and meeting other kids at the resort. Everyone was friendly and the resort staff were very helpful. Extra towels, laundry detergent, dishwashing soap - just a phone call away. The teen center was always busy and our boys were able to make good use of it and get involved in games there. The fitness center (also included at no charge!) is not your typical hotel fitness center with a few machines and stationary bike. This is a full fledged, top-notch workout facility. It was always being used but never too crowded. The equipment was great and they have everything you could need for a good workout.
One of our only complaints was that the main resort pool was too warm! It was not refreshing at all and provided little relief from the mid-90's temps. Fortunately, our pool at the villa was cooler (and cleaner!). Weather conditions (wind) caused most water activities to be cancelled every day so we were challenged with finding things to do every day. The resort did call us every day to let us know that activites we had signed up for were cancelled. Since we couldn't parasail or snorkel, we went to Key West, several beaches and mini golf. Hoping the wind dies down for our last day here so we can get out on the water.
We only paid approx. 2k for 6 days here so we feel like this is a good value for top notch accomodations for a family of 5. We would highly recommend this resort, and this unit in particular to any of our friends. Very comfortable!
