Sanctuary Villas at Hawks Cay
Reviewed 25 November 2014

We stayed in the Sanctuary Villas, 4 adults, 2 children. Upon arrival, villa floor was covered in cleaner, never rinsed and we all nearly slipped and fell. Villas need serious Maintanence. Floor tiles lifting and cracked, walls grubby, blinds broken, furniture tatty. Inoperable cooktop. Broken shower door. General appearance was grubby. Back pool deck and pool area in poor Maintanence. Pool filthy. Also, there were roaches in the villa. We did call about bugs and slippery floor, they tried their best to remedy. Asked and paid extra for daily cleaning, did not show up one of the days.

Check in was quick, service at main pool was good and efficient. Food was decent. Most staff seemed pleasant and accommodating. Cleaning woman had a permanent scowl.

Kids pool was under repair for the first three days, a major disappointment as there was no notice or signs.

We decided to venture off property for most meals, a wise choice according to others we spoke to.

We always told ourselves we need to check out Hawks Cay....we're not sorry we did but we won't be back.

My daughter and I stayed here for the better part of a week in October. It was a nice, quiet, and clean 2 story unit, with a kitchen and water view. As nice as it was to have access to the main building, shops, pool, and restaurants, it was always nice to "get away" again and to to our villa. We got some major relaxing in, but got sun, went shopping, took full advantage of the Day Spa, We enjoyed great service, from happy employees. We also took day trips into the surrounding Keys, and found some fun adventures. I am already telling by friends in Ft. Lauderdale what a nice time we had at Hawks Cay; I'm sure we will come back again soon.

We Loved everything about Hawks Cay. From the service to the food to the fishing charters, the whole family enjoyed the trip. We would definitely return winter or summer! The kids especially loved the lagoon and the dolphins. We even took a trip down to Key West for the day to enjoy the sunset on Duval St.

This was week 2 of our trip in Florida. What do you want to say about the Florida Keys. It's not really the USA yet it's not fully the Caribbean. Our kids are 15 and 17, perfect place for them, safe, pools everywhere and a salty lagoon... and almost forgot the dolphins....

Just about in the middle of the Keys, so not far from Key West, located just before Marathon and the Seven Mile bridge.

Being the Keys, there are some times bugs around, this is normal!!!!!

Room Tip: Choose the quiet pool area...

I spent a long weekend here with 4 of my best girlfriends in one of the 2 bedroom homes. The pool in the backyard, coupled with the blender in the kitchen made for a fantastic time!
We ate at most of the restaurants at Hawks Cay, which were fine for resort food, although overpriced for the quality. We indulged at the spa and enjoyed the massage. The pools were nice and the resort grounds well kept.
Overall, a good place for families or groups.

Will never understand the business decision HC makes to clean ~$200 hotel rooms daily, but not their top of the line, ~$500 a night homes. We were greeted with 3 live roaches and spent 1/2 our time meeting and explaining to maintenance people what wasn't working (pool light, pool heater, various light bulbs, blinds, etc). On the second day of no maid service I called to ask why we were having to wash our own towels, etc. and found out we only got maid service on day 1. When I asked the customer service rep if the hotel rooms were cleaned daily, she agreed it didn't make any business sense that our home wasn't cleaned daily. I asked for a manager to call me, they never did. Found the resort to be very over priced. Also not much privacy anywhere as you are always right next to other guests.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere. If you do decide to go here, select the lower cost villas--and then go and see which a...
