“The Balearia Bahamas Express Ferry Company = rip off”
Reviewed 20 August 2012

We booked a one day trip from Fort Lauderdale FL to Freeport, Bahamas. The ferry itself was clean and comfortable but that's where it stopped. All the literature including my email confirmation stated the ferry arrived in the Bahamas at 12:30. As the time approached and we saw no land we asked the Purser about it and she told myself and several others the arrival time had never been 12:30, always more like 1:45pm. In the end we arrived at Freeport at 2:10 after customs it was 2:35 when we left the terminal. As the ferry check in was at 5 we had just about 2.5 hours in the Bahamas. Returning to the port, we met what was a cattle shed, there was no organisation, people checked in had to stand around with people trying to check in, then it was a free for all to board. AS a sort of compensation we were ungraded to 1st class and thought we would get some rest however a party of about 12 started to party big time and despite several people asking the crew to have a word with them, no crew member showed their face. The return trip was supposed to get back to FL at 10pm, in the end we arrived at 10.50 and finally exited the boat at 11:20. Because of their times being so far our, we missed a planned and pre-paid trip on a glass bottom boat and as we had used the hotel shuttle to Port Everglades we arrived back too late for return by that and ended up with a taxi bill of $30. The food on board was limited to some sandwiches (ham or turkey with cheese) which for some unknown reason they microwaved until about to burst into flame at $6, soggy under cooked cold fries for $4, burnt pizza (8 inch) at $4 a 1/6 slice or 5 chicken nuggets for $4. All in all, the worthless ferry, the missed trip and the taxi cost me over $400.

“Terrible Ferry!”
Reviewed 18 August 2012

The Balearia Bahamas Express Ferry Company is a liar. They have false advertised their excursion and made our trip a waste of time on our vacation. We went on a day trip from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Freeport, Grand Bahama August 2012. They advertised leaving at 10am, left at 11:45am. Advertised 2.5 hour trip, took 4 hours. Expected 12:30pm - 7:00pm time to be in Bahamas (give or take travel time), had from 3:00pm - 5:30pm. Were to be back at 10pm, did not arrive until 11:15pm. Additionally, there were no explanations, apologies, accommodations... for all these mishaps. Further, the hospitality of the Balearia staff was simply nonchalant and nasty. All in all, terrible experience.

“Worst experience in my life!!”
Reviewed 18 August 2012

I will never take this boat again since we had to travel from fll to bahamas for a 12 hours trip and only 2 hours in the marketplace! We were supposed to be there at 1pm and in fll at 10pm... This is really not what happened, we arrived at the marketplace at 2:30 (leave at 5pm) and in fll at 1:30am!! This is mostly for bahameans who wants to travel in usa... Worst experience in my life!!! NEVER again!!! 320$ for 2 people in total... And if you seek for a beautiful beach, you wont find it overthere.. The only free beach was so dirty!

Really good price $150 inc return transfers - The Bahamas was the highlight of our holiday. Great people, great food and beautiful beaches. Will definitely be returning and staying for longer.

FYI the duty free shopping on the boat is FAB!!!
