“2nd time staying here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

We stayed here for the 2nd time. It was a Wednesday night in February. Yes, the elevators can be slow, and I was aware of this before I booked it. We were able to check in about 10AM when we arrived, which was great. We got a room overlooking the intercoastal, which I highly recommend. It's very interesting to sit outside and look at the boats and mansions. We spent some time at the beach and the pool. I understand the pool gets quite crowded, especially on weekends. We have been fortunate to only be here on weekdays. We love the location for the beach, restaurants, and barhopping. We will definitely stay here again.

This was my 2nd stay at this hotel in the past five years. I visited for 5 nights with my daughter in February. We had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool area and the beach. We did not mind this location and were able to sleep with our slider open at night without extra noise.
The hotel is slightly dated. The room was fine and had everything we needed but was not luxurious. Our king bed was very comfortable. Not much for bath products, just shampoo and soap.
The staff were all very friendly and did their best to make our stay memorable. The elevator situation was crazy. We had to wait almost all the time at least 5 minutes. We would have used the stairs but they were not available to use going up most of the time. The access from the street level or garage had to be thru the elevator and that was a major problem.
The pool area gets a good amount of sun(if it is out) most of the day. Unfortunately, we had cool weather while we were in Fort Lauderdale and there was also construction going on at the pool from 9-4 so it wasn't the greatest time to lounge around. The hot tub area was popular and we used it several times.
The location is great if you are on foot. There are tons of places to walk to and the water taxi stop is less than a block away.
We got an excellent price so I am not complaining. I would stay here again if the price was right. If I had to pay top dollar I would proabably look elsewhere.

Let me begin by expressing my amazement at the positive reviews posted here. This was as poorly designed and badly located hotel (time share, actually) as I have ever experienced.

We arrived on Sunday of Presidents' weekend looking for a relaxing 4 night getaway from work. Marriott had contacted us with a deal for Singer Island which was attractively priced, but by the time things had settled, they had no availability. Thus, they offered us this hotel as a compensation.

The Beach Towers has no entrance at street level. If you arrive by car, you have to enter a parking garage ($14/night, not included located behind the building) and drive a long 5 floors then enter an elevator to arrive at the lobby. Without a car your must enter through a 3 story shopping mall, through a dirty tunnel, and then to the elevator and up 6 stories. Count on at least 5 minutes and sometimes much longer for an elevator to arrive. They were almost always packed, often with families carrying beach gear since that is the only way to the beach, through the mall. We arrived at 1 but were told that our room wouldn't be ready until 4. After a quick change and bag storage, we headed to the beach.

What a culture shock! The mall was an open air zoo of cheap beach stores, loud bars with competing loud music, and badly tattooed teenagers and 20 somethings getting drunk. The beach across a busy street was very crowded. We ended up a quarter mile away at the local gay beach, which I assume had thinned out the party animals and which was quieter. Since the hotel is in the middle of the bar strip, my wife and I never used the beach there but instead, headed south across from the much nicer Marriott Courtyard.

When we finally were told that our room was ready, the desk clerk recommended a room facing the city, as the ocean front rooms are directly above at least 4 bar/restaurants (think Hooters and you get the picture) that would have loud music playing late into the night and would be audible even with the doors to the balcony closed. While it was quieter at night, the city view rooms are directly over A1A South, and the tall buildings echo the traffic and construction noise during the day. The room itself was fine, but the common areas were always dirty, possibly from sand and dirt brought in from the beach and the mall. The small deck area was far too small to accommodate the number of guests there during our stay as was the pool. It seems to be one of those places where guests place towels on chairs early in the day to reserve space whether they are there or not. The deck is also in the sun during the heat of the day, and there is little shade. The lone hot tub was occupied primarily by small children. After a short visit, we opted for a trek back to the beach. I should also mention that the fitness room was too small for the number of guests working out. There was always a scramble for the ellipticals.

In discussing all of this with a Marriott employee, we were informed that this property was not designed by Marriott, and as a result they did not own the garage (the $14 fee) nor the mall (no control on the tenants.) We were also told that this was one of the worst of Marriott Vacation Club properties (which is why it was available over a holiday weekend.) Maybe Fort Lauderdale Beach wasn't our cup of tea. If Spring Break or Jersey Shore are your idea of a vacation getaway, maybe this is the place for you. I can honestly say that I wouldn't return here if I was given the room for free. It was that bad of an experience.

We only stayed one night as we live in the area. Good points is that it's right on the beach, clean hotel and room.

BeachTowers by Marriott is a great Hotel for a romantic get aways and family vacations. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this hotel. We felt like we were at home. The room is huge with a kitchentte and a balcony very ,very, very clean. The bed and pillows and comforters are so comfy. The staff is so pleasant and serviceable. The beach is just across the street and many resturantes down the strip. The pool area also clean and the water temp was warm. Its a beautiful and enjoyable hotel. We plan to return with our familys.

Just returned from 4 nights here. The location is great and you don’t need a car rental. There are many activities and restaurant choices within an easy walk. We bought water taxi tickets one day and the pickup stop is a block away. We found the employees to be helpful and cheerful.

We stayed in a studio and had a high floor (1704) with a wonderful view of the intracoastal waterway. We enjoyed watching the water traffic and the skyline at night. (who knew that Ft Lauderdale had a skyline). The room was very clean and a comfortable size for 2 people.

Things to know:
They are renovating the elevators; so no more than 3 (out of 4) are working. When elevator problems arise, you are down to 2. This happened Sunday morning during the checking out hours and resulted in many unhappy people. There are no service elevators, so you have maintenance and housekeeping getting on with their carts as well as guests with some of the largest suitcases I have ever seen. In frustration, people push both the up and down buttons as they wait for an elevator, resulting in elevators stopping at every floor slowing the process. The arriving elevators are packed and no one can get on, so more frustration results. We would have been happy to use the stairs but you can only exit the stairwell at the ground level. Even if you just want to go down one floor, you must take the elevator.

You can only access the hotel through the elevators. It sits atop a parking garage and mall and you pass through one of those, then take elevators to the lobby. It was confusing on arrival as the taxi must enter a parking garage and go up 3 levels to drop you at an elevator, which you then ride up another 3 floors to the lobby level.

Also know that the activities center (19th floor-another elevator ride) rents out beach chairs and umbrellas daily. If you use the concession on the beach it will be $30 vs. $8 from the activities center. We didn’t know this and bought cheap ones in the mall below. We gave them to someone on the beach when we left, but we could also have donated them to the hotel’s inventory.

Overall we were happy with our stay and would return.

Room Tip: Ask for high floor and intracoastal view.

Great place; awesome location! Loved having a coffeepot at hand and a kitchen for my early meals. Right by shopping areas and restaurants, and directly across from the beach. Great pool area. Friendly service. Rooms clean. Would definitely love to stay there again.

Room Tip: Pick one close to bottom floor -- the only problem with this hotel is the slow elevators!
