I took my mom to Key Largo and we were so glad we stayed at the Boatel. George was the most accomodating host and we had the greatest time fishing and canoeing through the mangroves. What a unique place to stay, can't wait to go back!

Each year my kids and I go on a "Grand Adventure", we have spent a week camping in Glacier National Park and a week in Yellow Stone National Park. We decided this year it was time to leave the mountains and explore the ocean! We were looking for something that wasn't so "Commercialized" and would allow us the opportunity to experience the natural ocean without all the crowds and insane chaos... And then we found the Boatel! Its absolutely perfect for on outdoor-style family like mine! The boats are older, no turn-down service on our bed sheets, no mints on the pillows, no crowds... PERFECT!!! The owner, George, was so knowledgeable about the area that we were able to make every day a fantastic adventure! We played up and down the keys each day then came back to our private and secluded slice of Key Large Sound heaven. Each evening we would sit on top of the boats in our swim trunks and watch the moon and the stars until the kids fell asleep in the lounge chairs. Every morning I would take a different child with me and we would kayak out into the middle of the bay and watch the sunrise.... Breathtaking. Seriously, where can you find this type of seclusion, peacefulness and value without the crowds! We took the kayaks just about every day and went on little trips exploring and snorkeling as we went. The location of the Boatel is ideal for relaxing kayak trips with tons to see!
If you want 5 star hotels with mints, crowded areas with no family privacy, expensive rentals, and no local "Key Largo God Father" than this is definitely NOT the place for you!
But as for me and my family one week was not enough! We are booking a boat with George for a MONTH next winter!!!
Thanks George, my kids already miss seeing you each day and wanted me to say Hi and THANK YOU on their behalf!
Kati hasn't set that coconut purse down yet!

Room Tip: Just talk to George, let him know what your needs are and he will steer you in the right direction. He is not some kid behind the counter, he is the owner and he will take care of you!

Took my two teenage sons for Spring Break visit to the Keys; stayed at the Boatel for 5 nights. We stayed on boat #2, which was plenty of space for 3 people. We even brought our small dog. The boat had two beds and a fold-out bed, bathroom, kitchenette, 2 TVs, and a/c that worked great. Very comfortable; great view. This is not a luxury hotel, but stay here for the true "Keys" experience. Kids took kayaks out, we swam off the dock, and rented one of several small power boats available on the property to motor out to one of the small islands. Plenty to do nearby, grocery stores and shopping close, and a great little restaurant across the parking lot from Boatel where they have a terrific breakfast. The Boatel owner, George, is a great host who will go out of his way to make sure you have everything you need available. We will definitely be back!

Our first night we were in the crows nest it was nice and roomy. The rest of our stay we were in houseboat #3. We really enjoyed our stay. George is a super nice guy. You cannot beat the price we got to go snorkeling a lot and jet skiing which is pretty pricey but since we saved so much money staying in the boatel we got to splurge on everything else! We will be back to the key largo boatels soon!

Stayed for several nights with two young daughters on Spring Break visit to the Keys. We stayed on boat #1 which was adequately sized for 1 adult and 2 small children. I would say the accommodations are on par with an efficiency style motel room that just happens to be floating on the water with fabulous views. Air conditioning and appliances worked fine. The location is excellent for exploring the Upper Keys. We used it as our base to explore several beaches in Key Largo and Islamorada and go on a couple of snorkel and boat tours. There is a great breakfast and lunch joint across the parking lot. There is a supermarket and Kmart a mile or two away which we visited a few times. We used the gas grill on the dock everyday for burger, steak and seafood dinners. Kids loved being so close to the water and feeding our leftovers to the fish living under the boat. Didn't get a chance to try the free use of kayaks because i thought kids were to young but there apeared to be plenty of equipment in good condition. Overall, I had a very good experience and would return again.
