Wife and I stayed there a couple weeks ago - its a very nice little place! The location is good as any and the rooms were very clean and looked to have been updated recently. They do need to fix the shower attachment as it simply slides over the tub facuet. The problem is, is that it leaks and shoots water on to the floor, walls, etc. Not that big a deal, but something better needs to be installed.
The bathroom doors look great as to the rest of the roon, but they are slotted like a window blind and well, not sound-proof to say the least. The t.v. cant really be seen while your in bed either.

My husband and I spent three nights of our honeymoon at the Azul del Mar in December 2009. The accomdations were splendid including the dock on which which we watched the sunsets every night. The staff, especially Dominic were extremely helpful and provided excellent recommendations for dining in the area. They took the quality of our stay very personally and it showed in the hospitality they provided. Kayaks were available for use. The hotel is the perfect place for anyone looking for a romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at Azul del Mar. It was just perfect for us. The suites were spacious and had beautiful views. The hotel is very small, so it felt very private and was very quiet.
I cannot say enough about the staff. They were so helpful, but not intrusive. It really was the perfect place.
One thing to note is there isn't great swimming off the small beach area (though I really didn't find anywhere in Key Largo that had great beaches). They do have kayaks you can use to get out on the water.
It was such a great place, I hope to come back again and again.

This was our second stay at Azul. Our first trip was just one night. This time we stayed for three. We enjoy the tropically landscaped grounds, especially the fragrant Orchid tree toward the back. For us, Azul del Mar also provided a central location. Overlooking the bay, it offers an idyllic sunset view. Providing beach chairs and umbrellas is an appreciated convenience as were the kayaks available for rent. One aspect which I think would add value and convenience is offering breakfast which they did when we stayed there before. In room menus would also be a nice touch. We enjoyed the stereo in our very clean rooms as well. We particularly liked the Key Largo Tropical Garden Suite for value and the Key Largo Deluxe Sea view Royale for its spaciousness, decor and broad, mirrored sea view.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in the Azul del Mar and we write this review cautiously as we want to be as balanced as we can to assist others in selecting the right 'hotel' for them, but our overriding feeling after staying in the Azur del Mar was one of disappointment rather than dissatisfaction. As non Americans it may be that our understanding of what a hotel is, is different to the locals, consequently we felt that the Azul provided managed self catering chalets rather than hotel stanard accommodation and services.

Plus points were the seamless booking process, friendly reception and impecable attitude of the staff we met. The owner availed us of a 10% discount, the location was handy, the setting was nice and the room was clean and tidy. On the downside, our room was spoilt by the noisy aircon system directly above the headboard of the bed, it roared into life every 5 minutes or so and made sleeping really difficult; with the aircon off the room became stuffy unsurprisingly and, unlike the Key West property, there was no ceiling fan to fall back on. The divider to the bathroom was provided by fitted wooden screensand some might find the scant pivacy it provided a ittle difficult.

That said our disappointment was based in a mixture of the ok but not fantastic room, ok but not stunningly beautiful, tiny private (man-made) 'beach' and deck area which provided ok but not stunningly beatiful views of Florida Bay. I guess our expectations were raised by some of the overly generous, in our view, reviews we read on trip advisor, hence our entry.

Primarily due to the great attitude of the staff, decent location and nice enough rooms we would probably recommend the hotel to friends, but we would try to manage their expectations slightly better than some of the earlier reviews allowed us to manage ours.

Azul del Mar is a small, boutique hotel nestled in a tropical garden overlooking Florida Bay and Everglades' National Park. It's a special place that some guests appreciate more than others.
We call ourselves a small boutique hotel. But there is a tendency to confuse travelers by attempting to pigeon-hole Azul.
One thing is for certain; we would prefer guests to arrive without preconceived ideas rather than be disappointed if we don't fit the mold.
Regarding our a/c's, our air conditioners are easily adjustable via remote control and when properly set, are extremely quiet as other reviewers have stated. They even have a fan mode that stays on constantly if desired.
While this guest stayed in our most economical suite that does not have a water view, it is nicely appointed and represents a great value.

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights at Azul for a dive trip in Key Largo. We called ahead to see if we could get an early check-in and our request was happily accommodated. We had booked a room at their moderate rate and was pleased to find out that we were booked in the "Royale Suite" which is on the ground level facing the water. This room was great! It was a very large suite with two bedrooms, and kitchen area, large living room and huge bathroom. Everything about the decor was gorgeous, and the room was clean, with nice linens and huge, fluffy towels. The view from our room was wonderful and the grounds were immaculate, with a cute little "beach" area and a nice dock for sunning. There were free kayaks for use, which we didn't take advantage of, but noticed some other couples staying there who did. Azul has a very relaxing, accommodating atmosphere. As divers, we were pleased to find an area for rinsing and drying our equipment, with even a tub to soak our equipment available outdoors. We are definitely looking forward to going back there soon, and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a first-class place to stay.

WE spent several quiet, peaceful glorious days at Azul Key Largo. Even the air conditioner was quiet! The room was beautifully yet simply appointed, the staff was friendly and informative. I enjoyed reading beside the bay, chatting with other guests. The lot is actually quite small but designed to appear as a Caribbean retreat. Best of all, there were kayaks to travel the bay. We will return.
