“A Mixed Blessing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2012

This is one of a series of resort hotels that now get the badge of "Waldorf Astoria" which immediately bestows prestige, but in this and in various other similar properties (like the historic Boca Resort) doesn't quite do justice to the Waldorf name, or to the customer expecting the respective service and quality. The biggest plus of the hotel is its location, which in my opinion can't be beat and is simply the nicest in Key West. No wonder, it's a very old resort, perhaps the oldest on the island, built when the railroad came at a time when one could still handpick the best location. So the beach is wonderful, with a reasonable amount of sand, which is not a given at all in the Keys.

But this is almost the end of the advantages. The "Waldorf" name means very high rates, so it's important to shop for deals and reasonable times. The "historic" often translates into "old" and "inconvenient" and "clumsy", and the facilities and rooms are not at all at a level of comfort of say a standard Marriott hotel. Furniture is very spartan, bathrooms are rather small and sometimes have an awkward layout. The only restaurants are out in the garden - a nice setting, but what do you do in the frequent summer downpours? The nice beach location means that you are quite far away from the action of Duval Street and Mallory Square, and many of the other bars. Overall, an amazing mix of strong pros and cons.

Room Tip: Get "oceanview" even if it costs more; the view to the north is very uninspiring, and ofte...

2 thumbs up. My first time to Key West and I picked a winner of a hotel. The pool service was fabulous with Cabana Boy Jason giving us top notch service. We were there for 4 days and Jason recognized us from Day 1. Jason had towels and beach side chairs ready for us as soon as we walked out to the beach.. Jason brought us whatever we needed within minutes. Its people like him that represent Hilton well. The tiki bar was really nice and they had a guy playing guitar in the late afternoon. The resort is in a fantastic location for Key West and all party spots are within an easy walk from the resort. We didn't eat at the resort as their are too numerous other local restaurants to try out. The rooms were smaller than I would expect at a Hilton as were the bathrooms. I am definitely going back this Fall to Key West and would stay at this resort again.

This hotel was so much fun, and made my Key West experience one to remember. Me and a group of friends did the jet ski tour on the beach and had a blast! Thomas and John were our guides, and I couldn't have ask for any better guides. Thomas was the leader of the tour, and not only was he so knowledgable about the island, but he made us feel so safe since we are not very experienced on the jet ski's. We got free time to drive around and Thomas was right there to make sure we were not in any trouble. I would recomend doing this tour to any one who stays at the Casa Marina. And make sure to ask for Thomas and John!!!

Casa Marina is a beautiful property with wonderful service! We stayed with our two daughters, aged 10 and 7. The reception area is lovely and check in was a breeze. I had requested a quiet room on a high floor at the end of the hallway, and that is exactly what we had. We stayed in the one bedroom suite, and I must say, the room was the most disappointing part of our stay. The room wasn't furnished as nicely as I would have expected for the price we paid (as one past reviewer put it, it did kind of remind me of a dorm room) and the bedroom was dark with one small window that looked into a hallway, which was strange to me. The room had nice amenities and was functional and clean...Also, I should mention, I am a fussy sleeper and this room was QUIET - one of the quietest rooms I have ever stayed in in a hotel and that is saying something. The biggest draw of this property was the property itself and the wonderful staff...From check in to the concierge to the valet to the staff at the pool and beach, everyone we came across went above and beyond...the property itself is very beautiful and well maintained. There were also some nice features that we didn't expect, waiters would go around the pool offering free samples of the drink of the day, they would come around every so often with ice water, sunscreen was made available if you needed, frozen washcloths handed out which was a nice respite from the sun - I loved all the little perks! We went for breakfast one morning and were seated outside and handed a very pricey breakfast menu when we noticed around us everyone was getting up and down and helping themselves to a lovely (and cheaper) buffet. We would have liked it if someone mentioned the buffet was an alternative to a $14 yogurt and granola. All in all, we would definitely recommend this resort and would definitely return. It is pricey but I think worth it!

Very beautiful Hotel. Excellent pools (2 large pools), food, room service, super friendly and helpful staff, free drink samples, free ice cream (once a day), Nespresso in the rooms, bright rooms, clean rooms, own beach, excellent service all around and really friendly staff. Of course food etc is not exactly cheap (Burger room service ~ 25 bucks)...

You can walk down to the main part of Key west within a few minutes... Other Hotels (especially the Marriotts) are quite far away so that this here is a better choice!

Only problem: The rooms in the "old wing" offer no noise insulation at all. I heard my neigjbors and people on the hallway talking and even breathing at night. Since its an upscale Hotel it's not too noisy but it might be an issue for some people. Just bring ear plugs and enjoy the Hotel

i would definitely go back anytime I can!!!!

Enjoy!!!! And don't even bother looking at other places.... THIS IS the best key West has as far as I know....

Room Tip: newer wing might not have the noise problems as the old wing does.

We sayed here april 2012. Right on the beach. About 20 mins walk to duval street where it is all happening. One of the brightest rooms we've ever stayed in with 3 windows letting in loads of light. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Just go and enjoy an excellent breakfast whilst the beach boys put your beach beds where you want them complete with 2 towels each! The bar and restaurant facilities are great. Would recommend this hotel to everyone. Colin and jilly robin. Guernsey.

Jet Ski Island Tour was fantastic. English Tom was the first person with customer service skills at this entire resort.
Thanks for a great afternoon!
