We saw the number #1 rating on tripadvisor.com and thought this probably is too good to be true. Or that the #1 rating had prompted too many visitors and that the place became over-popular and lost some of its charm. or the prices skyrocketed.

None of this is true.
The place was perfect.

Set on the more serene side of the Key (opposite from the high trafficed--but must see--Mallory Park) it has a wonderful location just 1/2 block from the beach. It is a low rise that surrounds a heated pool that is open 24 hours and has a small a fun arc fountain.

The rooms are great. I do not like to overblow reviews and have expectations raised too high but I'll simply say without reservation that you'll love it.

Granite counter-tops; two bedrooms; washer & dryer and plenty of space.

Go. You won't be disappopinted.

We stayed at the Santa Maria from 12/25-30 and loved it. There was 15 in our group (4 rooms).

We had a 2nd/3rd floor 2 bedroom condo. The rooms were very nice (modern decor) and well maintained. The front staff was very helpful providing advice on things to do and places to eat (and directions/reservations).

We ate most breakfasts in (and 1 dinner) so having a well equipped kitchen with top of the line appliances was appreciated. Every night the staff gives you muffins and mini dove ice cream bars which was an added bonus. By the pool, there were complimentary smoothies (booze optional and free).

We have 2 teen age boys (19 and 16). The second bedroom with 1 king size bed was an inconvenience. However, the boys rotated sleeping on the living room couch and they didn't mind.

Our living room and bed room balcony overlooked the pool so we got nice warm breezes from across the courtyard. My sister had a side room so her balcony faced the side of our complex and the parking lot (be sure to ask for a pool view).

The hotel location is at the south end of Duval Street so you are away from the hustle and bustle but still close enough to the action (1.5 miles from Mallory square for the sunset ritual).

The sister hotel is the Casa Marina and is about 3-4 blocks away located on the beach. You can use all of their facilities (health club, pool and beach).

All-in-all a wonderful place to stay -- we will definitely stay there again!!

This is THE place for a family or 2 couples traveling together to stay in Key West. Just a block off Duval, you get the convenience without the traffic or all night revelry noise. You also get:

- The friendliest and most helpful staff imaginable
- Great, new, comfortable rooms with full kitchen and washer/dryer
- Free coffee, muffins, Dove ice cream bars, cool drinks by the pool
- Turn down service with chocolates on the pillows
- Did I mention the helpful and friendly staff that will gladly help with dinner or activity arrangements?

Stay here....

The other reviewers who note how friendly and helpful the staff is are right on target. The people here couldn't have been nicer.
The property and rooms are gorgeous and well kept.

A few random thoughts:

Thanks to the in suite washer and dryer we got out family of four packed in one suitcase.

Had the same problem with the air mattress and my teenagers as the other reviewer.

This property does not have a beach but the staff said that there is access through the resort next door. We never got around to it.

This place is a block off of Duval. Duval is a little longer than 1 mile long. The west end is the party end, the east end, where Santa Maria is located, is the hotel (quiet) end.

Check out the Abbondanza Italian Restaurant about 2 blocks away. Get the coupon for the Key Lime Pie at the hotel.

Stayed at the Santa Maria Resort from December 26th thru the 29th.
We have a family of four so needed two rooms. Unfortunately the rooms have king beds. Not good when you have two teenage boys not wanting to share the same bed. They put an air mattress on the floor in the living room but it was cumbersome.
Overall the resort is very nice. If you absolutely need a full kitchen and washer/dryer then this is the place for you!
If you are like me and want cool ocean breezes coming in the window at night and don't want to cook while on vacation...then don't stay here! Our room was stuffy at night (had to use the a/c everynight) with parked cars outside our window.

Positive side: free drinks and snacks all day by the pool!!

While the resort and staff were nice there are much better accommodations in Key West with a more tropical feel, right on the beach.
