We had a wonderful two day stay at Casa Morada, on Islamorada in the Florada Keys. Their waterfront units are very stylish, comfortable, and they have seaviews and that balmy sea breeze!! There are some wonderful restaurants very close. Do try Ma's Fish Camp, for great seafood , in a casual setting.

Room Tip: Plan to visit them in a shoulder season, for the best rates.

My wife visited Casa Morada on a girls' weekend and loved it so much she had to bring me to see it. We had an amazing weekend there, and most of all appreciated the kind and thoughtful service by the staff and the completely relaxed laid-back environment that they have created. We would also highly recommend the morning yoga classes and massage with Jeff Shaman, who is an excellent teacher and amazingly kind soul.

If you want a good laugh, read Phillipe C's negative review bellyaching about boiled eggs. Yes, they did have a plate of boiled eggs at the (self-service, continental) breakfast, but it was just one of about 20 choices. I can only imagine Phillipe was involved in a traumatic childhood incident involving a boiled egg.

Casa Morada was the most expensive place we stayed during our two weeks in Miami/the Keys, but it was worth it. We felt quite emotional when the time came to leave, like we were being torn away from a bubble of calm and relaxation and dumped back in the ratrace. It's the perfect place to chill out and de-stress for a few days.

Our room (Shangri La) was excellent. If you're expecting something resembling a five-star hotel, you might be disappointed, as it felt more like staying in a friend's really nice apartment, but we liked that slightly more homey feel. You could pretend you were staying in your holiday home.

Positives:
* A pair of dolphins calmly swam past one afternoon, no more than five metres from the front of the sunbathing deck. They came back later too, apparently.
* You CAN stay here without having a car. The Islamorada Greyhound stop ("Oh my god, a BUS?" Yes, a bus. What's the big deal?) is within a few minutes' walking distance (outside Burger King), and one really nice touch is that the property has four bicycles that guests can borrow. There are enough places to eat within cycling distance for you to stay three or four days without ever needing to get a taxi (only problem: if they're on the other side of the highway it will take you five minutes waiting before you can cross!)
* Superb quality free wifi throughout the property, so you Twitter addicts can browse while you bake.
* Good for cat lovers - there are 3 or 4 on the property. One, a very cute black and white mog, hung around in the breakfast area every morning miaowing for attention, and in the evenings he leapt over the fence to our balcony to hang out.
* If you're into sunbathing, you'll be in heaven. If you're not really into sunbathing (yeah, I know, but my wife is...), you'll be fine too. There's a covered area on the sun deck where you can lie back on a mountain of cushions and relax in the shade. Alternatively, you can hang out on your balcony and watch the fish swimming around below (well, if you book the room we stayed in...)
* Our TV had a built-in DVD player.
* Good attention to detail: free copies of the New York Times at breakfast, scented candles and lillies in the room. You expect this kind of thing for the price, and it's there.
* Very quiet/people kept themselves to themselves.

Negatives: pretty piddling, really.
* Our fridge emitted a rather loud hum during the night.
* The bath took a very long time to fill.
* There's an attractive looking little grotto area with two seats by a fountain, but nobody used it for the four days we were there - probably because of the rather offputting smell of chlorine. That might be worth rethinking.
* A list of the TV channels would be a helpful addition, particularly for visitors from outside the States, who don't want to spend 5 minutes trying to work out where the watchable channels like HBO are.

So it's not perfect... but it's pretty damn close.

I really liked this place a lot. It's a small Boutique style hotel. The grounds are really beautiful. The breakfast was included in our room rate and it was a very good continental breakfast. Some people came to breakfast in their hotel bathrobes and brought their little dogs with them. I just loved that. I really like the casual elegance of this place. It's quiet and very dog friendly, the rooms are private and the common areas are really quite nice. The pool area has plenty of lounge chairs. The bar was staffed by the pool so we could order drinks and appetizers and gaze at the water.

The pool could maybe use some updating. It was a little cold in the pool when we were there. I don't think they heat the pool, or at least they didn't when we were there. They had free kayaks for you to use. I thought it was refreshing to stay somewhere that didn't nickel and dime you everytime you turn around. It's so nice to have these free amenities! I really think the owner's of this resort know what they are doing.

Another great thing was that they had a whole bunch of different magazines, some board games etc in the bar area. How nice to grab a magazine and lounge in your chair by the water with a drink. These little amenities make the whole experience so enjoyable. the location is close to a number of great restaurants (we love Morada Bay for a casual dinner on the water with live music)

We will definitely be back, and next time we will bring our little dogs!

This quaint hotel is like a bed and breakfast, we had a beautifully appointed room (gumbo limbo) and loved their grounds and pool bar views. Found the staff a bit aloof and there was an annoying neighbors dog who barked constantly, but besides that we enjoyed our stay.

This is a lovely little place a third of the way down the Florida Keys. It is the best place is Islamorada, but take note that the Florida Keys are not Miami South Beach. We got a bit of a shock at the change of pace and style. Casa Morada is a converted motel with well appointed rooms. The pool area is the best feature and is fantastic. Sadly they do not serve spirits, so you cannot have a cocktail by the pool... Take your own vodka or gin. There are manatees which come up to the resort and they are amazing. My wife was able to swim with them and it made her day. There are lots of nice restaurants nearby which is handy as Casa Morada does not have a restaurant. You NEED a car round here. The owner is a lovely lady. You must speak to her with any comments that you have and she is very responsive.

I have been staying at Casa Morada for at least 8 years now.. It's about three hours from my house to this stunning tropical island... I am appalled at the scathing review that someone actually left on here ... It's pretty obvious by the majority of the reviews what this sanctuary is really like... And I have used the bocce ball court I have taken many naps in the grotto... There are Mosquitos everywhere that's just life in the tropics... The rooms are large and beautifully done.. I have never stayed at a holiday inn but I assure you that there is NO comparison... Maybe the travellers who left those remarks aren't used to the keys life..... Casa Morada goes above and beyond our expectations and always have... And I happen to love hard boiled eggs... They also have lovely breads fresh cereal delicious tropical fruits... Many other items to order if you want something more... Please don't let someone who is obviously blind to beauty stray you from this hidden treasure!!!!!!
