A family owned and staffed authentic French restaurant on Longboat Key. The room is unpretentious with white linens covering the walls. You start with a modest selection of two breads and butter, but when the amuse bouche appears there is a first hint of something special. The blue crab appetizer was an original creation wrap of cauliflower mousse. The foie gras risotto was also quite good. Both chilean and med. sea bass with crisped skin were excellently prepared. Then cocolate soufflé was light and fluffy. Entrees are priced around $35-45. Apps are $15-20 with truffle and foie gras offerings higher. There is a prix fixed menu at $65 which, although somewhat limited in choices, will allow some substitutions. Service was appropriate if not exemplary by a small staff. We were pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the meal.

Elegant set-up, perfect service, Maison Blanche has everything a great restaurant should have. But it has something more, an amazing chef that transforms ingredients into masterpieces.
No words can describe my feelings during that evening. A truly exceptional culinary experience.

We have been to Maison Blanche a number of times over the past 5+ years but skipped a year or so, until we made two visits in the past month. We always enjoyed the true French experience - great service, excellent food, very good wines, a quiet room with tables spaciously separated - but sometimes found the menu choices limited. Not any more! Between the a la carte, the prix fix and the daily specials, making a choice has become the fun part. We have recently had fish - sea bass, salmon - sweetbreads (wow!) and suckling pig - all amazing. a recent special was pan-fried foie gras - we could have been in Alsace! This is now our special-occasion place in SRQ!

Four of us went here, after a large group of friends had been their a couple of days before. I was skeptical of their description of dinner, so I had modest expectations going in, and was simply blown away. From the amuse bouche of butternut squash soup with perfect, tiny house-made croutons, through dessert, and the "extra dessert" of caramel custard, homemade marshmallow and vanilla madeleine it was perfect. Start with the staff: all of the dining room staff were efficient, unobtrusive and helpful. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable, explained the food in painstaking detail (because we asked for that) engaged in conversation about options, listened carefully and made recommendations, while being charming. It is unusual in my experience to have someone so knowledgeable about food and wine not be condescending, brusque or dismissive. Some of our dining companions were pains in the butt about special requests, details etc, and she just responded with patience and detail.

The food was magnificent. Our appetizers were perfectly portioned, full of interesting flavors and textures, beautifully plated and perfect. Our entrees were even better. One person ordered the special, which was a poultry pie. He was entranced and proclaimed it the best meal he has had in recent memory. Seriously, he savored every bite, ignoring the people at the table and becoming one with his dinner.

Everyone's entrees were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. And the desserts? Don't miss them out of some misguided belief that you should be "good". These desserts are worth every calorie.

The menu changes frequently, but each fish dish was perfect, as was my suckling pig. Over a period of 3 days, 15 members of our group ate there and every single one of them was amazed loved it.

The 3 course prix fixe was reasonably priced ($65) especially for the quantity and quality of the food presented. This is a destination/special event/meal of a lifetime kind of place. Don't miss it - ad please tell them if you are having a special event because they will do it right.

My spouse booked this restaurant on the recommendation of friends. The exterior of the building and signage is unassuming. The interior ambience is more upscale, table placement allows private conversation. Service was excellent, unobtrusive, timely and friendly. Menu had sufficient variety, food quality and portion size were excellent. Wine choice was adequate. Overall experience was very good. An unexpected quality restaurant for an unassuming location. We would definitely visit again, especially for a special occasion.
