A good place to stop when travelling through Midway. While the town is rather rundown, the museum is not. It consists of a main centre with various thematic artifact displays. There is an enclosed compound with various agriculture and farm implements. The highlight is the restored Midway train station. The station has been nicely preserved and contains many rail, CPR and Kettle Valley artifacts. Midway marks the mile 0 of the KVR, so the rail trail runs right behind the museum. An admission fee of $5 for adults is charged.
A great little museum! Friendly staff welcomed me in and showed me the diverse collection of the valley's past. The best part by far is the railway exhibit. Housed in the old midway station a beautifully preserved 100yr+ building with an old CP caboose on the tracks in front.
If you are driving along highway 3 through Midway, B.C. you should stop at the Kettle River Museum in the old CPR railway station on the west side of town. Learn about local history, the Kettle Valley Railway and the importance of the area through displays and real world artefacts. Try your hand at telegraphy or see what the military was like in Midway. It is a fast easy stop for the kids and the parents will take away a learning experience. This is also the MILE 0 jump off spot for cyclists travelling the Trans Canada Trail that is on the old KVR Railway Grade.
