“Blue Dog is AMAZING!!!!”

Blue Dog Bar & Grill
Ranked #2 of 19 Restaurants in Matlacha
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$3 - US$15
Cuisines: Seafood
Description: The goal of Blue Dog was to open a small, neighborhood restaurant in Matlacha, Florida the town we love. Our focus is on the small things that belong in a neighborhood restaurant. Being genuinely friendly, knowing the names of our guests and serving fresh local food at reasonable prices. Our hope is that the neighborhood grows to trust us and makes us an extension of their homes. The white boots (locally called 'Pine Island Reeboks') that 'Blue' wears on our logo are a nod to the rich past and current fishing history of Pine Island and Matlacha. These boots are worn by commercial fishermen all along the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida. From our family, we'd like to give our thanks to every crabber, fisherman, shrimper, oysterman, and all the commercial fishermen on the entire Gulf Coast but particularly Matlacha and Pine Island, for the sacrifices you have made to carry on the traditions of your fathers. It's one of the things that makes us proud to call Matlacha and Pine Island home. This is a great community. We have weathered storms...together. We work hard...together. We play hard...together and when the day is done...those white boots are put out to dry. Come, eat well, have a brew and sit with us for a while...and the dog is happy.

My parents have visited Blue Dog a few times and always tell me how amazing the food is there. My mom and I just took a quick 3 day trip to Matlacha from just south of Detroit. While there she took me to Blue Dog for dinner 2 nights in a row. The first night we stopped in they were serving Beef French Onion soup. I had to order it. I was not sorry. Absolutely the best French Onion Soup I’ve EVER tasted, with chunks of beef in it. I thought that was amazing until I tried the Coconut Shrimp Wraps with mango salsa and TNT sauce (a slightly spicy amazing sauce) !!! THE best meal I had while I was there. The next night I had the Ribeye Special, that was also amazing topped with a special garlic butter (with chunks of fresh garlic). The food, the service and the atmosphere is all wonderful. I even had to buy a v-neck Blue Dog tee while I was there. Will DEFINITELY be back to Blue Dog!!!!!!

We were looking for a casual seafood restaurant near the water and found this gem in Matlacha. We sat in the back by the bar where the atmosphere was best and where there appeared to be a lot of locals enjoying the food. We had friendly and fast service and great food. We had our favorite Florida seafood - grouper. My wife got it deep fried and I got it blackened - yum. The price was reasonable and we felt like we were part of this small community on the scattered islands between Cape Coral and Pine Island.

The ABSOLUTE BEST cracked conch in SWFL, magnificent mullet, scrumptious soft shell crab and an unexpectedly precocious paella! Been here for lunch (a truly wonderfully fresh Greek salad w/ crab cake a very special option), quiet dinner, raucous after golf outing and dinner club event and have NEVER been disappointed!! Ask if the fish is fresh and the waitress will point to a man sitting at the bar and say something like "..ask him, he just brought it in.....". Housemade salad dressings and dipping sauces (The Pine Island special is my favorite spicy/sweet delight). Fried, grilled, baked, doesn't matter it's ALL good. They can do a mean steak, too. Try it, you'll like it and you'll be back. It ain't pretty but you cannot beat the fare

Stopped to grab a bite to eat, best meal we had on vacation. Rubie our server (ask for her!), was cheerful and outgoing. We had delicious she-crab soup, smooth and flavorful, shrimp tacos like nothing we'd ever had before and the best crab cake, all crab and no filler. Fabulous food and service, we will go back
