Owner description: The spirited Cuban neighborhood of Miami where the sights, sounds and smells are intoxicating. Be sure to sample a traditional Cuban meal or grab a quick sandwich cubano and some empanadas at any of the walk up counters.

This is a mandatory learning experience. Why is Miami the great city it is? Because of the people who came from Cuba.......and I'm not even Cuban!

It has some charm, being the largest Cuban community in the US. But its not really an area you can walk around. Its main artery is SW 8 or calle ocho. This will run the whole length of Little Havana, but again large busy street. I wouldn't recommend to someone who is out of town. Yes if you want to have dinner or lunch here, try Versailles for food!

A day walking around Little Havana is completely worth it. But with so many shopping districts in tourist attractive cities, Little Havana's authenticity may be shock. This 2 mile strip of "Calle Ocho" is not made for tourists. It's for locals. And we like it that way. Yes there are a few souvenir shops. You can watch cigars being rolled and buy real guayabera shirts. Eat at various local favorite like "El Pub" and "El Rey delos Fritos." Walk into the fabric stores and the record stores alike. Take it in slowly and enjoy your day. If you get tired, just stop in for either a quick Cuban coffee or a naturally squeezed juice from a fruit market.

I always heard so much about "Little Havanna" in Miami and finally thought I had to check it out with my husband when we were in Miami last week.
The Big Red Doubledecker Bus let us off and we walked around. There is really NOT much to see. There was a little park where locals play dominos. "Calle Ocho" is just a big street with a few cigar stores and some restaurants, but nothing -really nothing- special. There are more interesting neighborhoods in this town with a cuban feeling.
We had also a very hard time getting back to our hotel. The red big bus only picks up people until 4:30 PM and it was already way later when we tried to head back to the hotel and taxis are very hard to find. I think we walked every single bit of Little Havanna and all of Calle Ocho.
Been there - done it...but to be honest if you only have a few days in Miami this is a big waste of time.
