I booked the Sofitel in Miami 5800 Blue Lagoon Drive from 3/30-4/2. 4 days 3 nights. We rented a car as well since you will need a car to drive around in this area. This hotel is 10 mins from the airport if that and around 20 mins to downtown Miami depending on the day and the traffic. I read the reivews and wanted to stay here.

My expereince.

The hotel grounds are amazing with a great lagoon and water falls. parking lots is huge and the hotel is huge. Doormen and guest services that check you in are all friendly, polite and accomodating. The check in was 3pm we got there around 12ish room wasnt ready, so we changed and hit the beach, 20mins drive to south beach. They gave us a call when the room was ready.

The hotel room was nice, spacious and great view of the pool and lagoon area. we got 2 queen size beds in a deluxe room. Bathroom was very clean, hallways were quiet and clean, everything was working, beds were very comfortable, view was amazing and the the area inside and out of the hotel was very quiet all times of the day. They told us the hotel was sold out, you wouldn't of known that because it was quiet.

The outside pool grounds were nice. very roomy to sit wherever you want. pool was spacious with waterfalls, water was cold at first but then you get used to it.

The lobby has a small cafe that service breakfast, snacks, and starbucks coffee.

Around a 2min drive is a shopping center, it includes a Publix supermarket, CVS, Burger King, laundry, chinese food, walgreens, subway and other stores.

Too bad breakfast wasn't included with the rooms, it was another $21 for breakfast to dine in their dining room too much $$$ so we drove to the shopping center instead for breakfast.

Overall we were very happy with the hotel. clean, quiet, huge grounds, great and polite staff. I would stay here again but maybe will try something different next time and i would want to stay at a hotel walking distance to the beach. If you stay here you will need a car for sure.

We paid a bit extra for the Sofitel as I really liked the pictures on all the reviews and it had quite a high score from most travellers. We had had a long flight, we had no intention of going into downtown Miami so we just wanted somewhere nice and comfortable and relaxing and ofcourse the shuttle bus from the airport was appreciated. I do have to say though that the information I received from the hotel about this was completely wrong. It doesn't tell you which floor to exit from (I think it is 2) and I was advised to stand in the central lane outside the airport but that is where the staff buses stop - just wait where everyone else is waiting for shuttles. Ours took quite a while (more than 40 minutes I think) to arrive but hey it was free. Check in was quick and painless and the receptionist was very friendly and actually took us to the lift. The bar area is stylish and welcoming as is the pool area which has nice loungey style seating in the evening. We just had a glass of wine and retired to bed but we still enjoyed it. We were given a room overlooking the lagoon and the views the next morning were just lovely. Breakfast seemed a bit pricey - maybe the hotel could do a special offer for guests and I am sure they would get more takers. We just got the shuttle back to the airport to pick up our car. I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a lagoon view

We stayed here for 1 night pre cruise and wish we could have stayed longer. Staff were very friendly. Rooms were spacious we had a lovely view of the lagoon, beds were very very comfy. Room service was lovely and quick not too expensive either. Breakfast was good quite alot of choice. They have free internet too! The hotel and pool area is farely modern which is nice. The only disadvangte is its not as near to places like south beach as we originally thought. Would definitely recommend & retun!

Stayed at this hotel pre-cruise and was pleasantly surprised with some of the amenities. Complimentary Wi-FI for 24 hours, complimentary airport shuttle and the shuttle also offered complimentary transport to the nearby market. The market is within walking distance and offers Starbucks, Burlington Coat Factory, nail salon, Chinese restaurant, Publix grocery market and more. We ate Cuban food at Casa Juan. Pleasantly surprised with the hotel's gym and pool facilities and the lounge area by the foyer with computers was nice touch. Didn't get a chance to eat at hotel's sit down restaurant, because it was fairly expensive for our budget, but had heard food was superb. Room service food was okay. Rooms are larger than standard Hyatt or Sheraton rooms. Only downside is there are some things that could be updated and some airplane noise--but really can't complain because we were able to secure hotel via priceline bidding. Hotel offers shuttle service to POrt of Miami for cruise guests at a cost.

I recently stayed at this property for a business trip. Overall, the property is very convenient to Miami International Airport and the interstate. Traffic notwithstanding you can get downtown/Miami Beach in less than 30 minutes ether via expressway or street routes. The staff is friendly enough. Not a lot of nice restaurants near by. I had to drive to Coral Gables to for a good business dinner location.

The staff is friendly enough and the hotel is clean. My only complaint is that the hotel does seem a bit outdated. The exterior could use a fresh coat of paint. The interior lobby is probably one of the smallest I’ve seen in a hotel of this size. No automatic checkout and a separate ticket (not your room key) are required to enter/exit parking. Minor inconveniences. Free internet was a plus. Overall, a good stay for a business traveler, but not a lot of bells and whistles.

We stayed here in March 2012 for the evening after flying in from the UK on an evening flight and then used it again as a day room after disembarking the ship prior to an evening flight home again. Rooms were very spacious, bathrooms clean with amenities and there was an iron and ironing board in the room. We had rooms with views towards the airport - great to see the planes land! The bar in the evening was great for some drinks and food and then again on our day room use, we sat by the pool for 4 hours. The pool area is nice although it was a bit windy but the sun was shining, it was warmer than the UK and that was all that mattered. The hotel shuttle was also easy to catch at the airport. Will definitely stay there again.
