This hotel is in a great location in South Beach, right on the beach and within walking distance of many things to do. It has a terrific restaurant, The Dutch, owned by Andrew Carmelini, who owns Locand Verde in New York, where the food is very good and the service is excellent. It's the hotel services which have let me down. It's almost as if, after a week here, I'm wondering what will happen next. Before we arrived we had called and been told that we could check in at 2 PM, and left an excellent hotel in Palm Beach, an hour away, where we could have waited to check out until 4 PM. The room at the W was not ready, so we had to sit and wait until it was--at close to 4 PM. Bad start. That same first day the sink backed up in the bathroom, and we had to get a hotel engineer in to fix it. After we called about that we realized that the bulb in the magnifier lamp (which my wife used for makeup) didn't work. We called and the engineer brought it with him. That event was sort of a precursor. Little things have happened every day. The minibar (actually a refrigerator in our room, which was a small suite) is not replenished regularly. This has meant that when we wake up to make coffee every other day or so and there's no cream for the coffee. On those days we have had to call room service to deliver coffee. One day when we called to have coffee delivered one cup was delivered instead of two (which meant that I didn't have coffee with my wife that day because it took half an hour to get another cup sent up). To be clear, two cups were delivered, but only enough coffee for one of the cups. Soft drinks were also not replenished regularly. A beeping sound waked us up one night--it just wouldn't stop--and the hotel told me I had voice messages that I hadn't picked up. We found out that wasn't true. Someone had unplugged a phone (which was in a second bedroom we had never used) from the wall plug and forgotten to plug it in again, perhaps during cleaning before we moved in. The phone's battery had eventually run down and the beeping was signaling that. We have called for various other services (such as turn down service at night) which never materialized at all. We also have had other complaints unrelated to the service. The pool is so crowded that when we go down (usually around 11 AM) there is usually no space for us. It has just not been a pleasant experience overall.

Room Tip: I wouldn't stay here again, but for someone who will, ask for a high floor.

Stayed 3 nights in an oceanview 2BR sanctuary suite. Large balcony with great view. Floor to ceiling windows in each room made the suite bright and sunny. Bathrooms are very large with great amenities! The outdoor areas around the hotel are the perfect place for evening cocktails. The beach was a great place to spend the day - with umbrella setup and lunch available. The pool area is pretty, but got a little crowded during the day. The hotel also has a car service that, with a reservation, can take you to dinner or Lincoln Mall shopping area. A beautiful hotel with a great staff-Everything was perfect!

My husband and I stayed here in December in a fabulous ocean view upgrade on one of the top floors and we were really thrilled with the view and the ambiance of the hotel. It is all pretty expensive but it is really beautiful and fun. We had dinner at Mr. Chows outside and the service was great. The breakfast was yummy too.

We stayed here in April with our entire family. Thirteen people ranging in age from one to fifty six. Every one of us loved it. We had a sensational suite which was unreal and an oasis suite which was great for my daughter and her kids. They have a service called whatever whenever and they really meant it. They tried to satisfy every request that we had and they did it with a smile. Ligy and Gaby and John Were unbelievable. Domina was very helpful with the rooms. Everyone at the front desk always dealt with our requests with a smile. Raul on the beach made sure our chairs were always ready. And the beach staff was always there with drinks and food. We were there on a holiday week so the beach and pool were crowded and even though the staff was stretched thin they did their best. Breakfast at the Dutch was great (but for thirty dollars they really should include the oatmeal in the buffet) And nothing outside of Hollywood beats the W for star gazing. This was one of the best family vacations we ever took. Can't wait to go back.

I spent two nights in an oceanfront Marvelous Suite and loved it! The suite was huge and had lots of high end electronics and a full kitchen and a washer/drier. Overall the service was great; a very friendly and helpful staff. Room service was Quick! Each time! The pool area was fun and the food/drink very good. I will return.

We have stayed at many of the hotels in the W chain but this one..although nice..was a little snotty. A lot of "look at me" around the lobby. We tried to go for a quick drink the day before we checked in but were not allowed to at the pool bar as security said it was for hotel guests only even if we were checking in the next day. The pool bar was not busy and we asked him if he was kidding...he said no..we left. A bit much in our opinion you would think from his attitude we were at the Ritz in London. Anyway hotel ended being good but next time we will stay at the Setai just a block away. In the end property is good but seems like there are a lot of "wannabes" hanging around.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Trip Advisor. I am sorry if you felt that our staff did not provide you will the superior level of service that W Hotels are known for. Please know that this is not the way we treat our guests on a day to day basis and this will be addressed.

Regretfully the pool bar is closed to non-registered guests due to security reasons, but outside patrons can always enjoy the delicious tastes of the living room bar and The Dutch Restaurant.

We hope to see you soon!

This hotel is most definitely a fantastic place to stay when in South Beach. And it is sooooo South Beach. There is a roomy-airy feel that is absent in some other South Beach luxury hotels and the rooms and balconies are constructed so that most have very nice views even if you are not in an "ocean front room". Our suite was spotless and the decor was lovely and ultra modern. The lobby and pool areas are amazing. We had a great time but did have some service problems. At this hotel if you are not Derek Jeter or a Brazilian heiress you will have to ask at least three times to get things done. The management gives the distinct impression that they have other, more important guests to deal with and they will get to you when they can. We're pretty laid back so it wasn't a big deal to us but others might get a little miffed when you are spending a grand a night. The worst of the service occurred with the valet and door men. They were total jerks. Oh well. The best service occurred at Dutch. We had two fantastic meals there that were worth every penny. The beach service was also exceptional (felt like a Madonna film--very Riviera). If you are 30 years old, super cool and have an endless supply of money, this is the place for you. Or if you like to gawk at this type (which can be fun too).
