We spent 3 days last week in the hotel. We were on the second floor with a room facing the courtyard.
Pluses:
1. Rooms are nice, clean and quiet. Small but workable. I was worried about construction noise after reading other reviews but that was completely not an issue for us.
2. Dog friendly - we forgot to pack the dog bed and bowls. They sent some right up.
3. Staff is friendly
4. Wine happy hour is nice
5. Ate dinner at Lantao - food was excellent, the service was good and the executive chef came to check on us and introduced himself. The crab spring rolls were really good. My husband had the strip and absolutely loved it. We asked for extra mashed potatoes to go for our dog and they happily obliged us.
Minuses:
1. Coffee offered in the morning in the lobby is lukewarm and not hot
2. Muffins and Danish from restaurant taste like they came from a vending machine.
3. Coffee is not available until 7am on the weekends (probably not a big deal for most people but I had to be up early and sure would have liked some).

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and we were very pleased with the location, the service, the rooms, the pool...everything was excellent. The surfcomber is located right by the beach and it is very clean, trendy, modern! We loved the fact that it is not a gigantic building with not too many rooms. It is 1 block from the shopping area of lincoln road and 5 min walk to the heart of ocean drive. Highly recommended! The only issue we had is the people in the room next door who were really noisy, especially at 3 in the morning...but we contacted the concierge who called them right away.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room so you are neither on the road nor too close to the pool where sometimes there...

First impressions: it's a small clean hotel 4 star max, good location for beach and cafes/restaurants/bars, but the hotel next door is being totally renovated and is very noisy during the day at the pool! This was not mentioned to us at any point during or after booking either written or verbally! Annoying.

On arrival a credit card is required charged at $100/day with the balance returned on check out - fairly standard everywhere..

Staff are generally nice and courteous. But the hotel restaurant/pool restaurant staff are slow and unconcerned generally, so service here is poor.

The pool area is nice and has lots of lounging options; pool/upper decks/gardens etc.. The beach is a stones throw from the hotel, so very good.

The hotel provides free tea/coffee every morning in reception.

The room we had was a courtyard room (ie zero view) it was small but clean and had an electronic safe.

This hotel is too expensive for what it is - we'll stay at the ritz Carlton or Loews next time.

If you're a stickler for great service, look no further than Surfcomber Miami South Beach. From the moment you pull up, you will experience 1st class hospitality, from front-desk to housekeeping to room service. In fact, when I mentioned to the room-service guy that my internet was really slow, he asked if he could help me. You can tell these folks are trained to put the customer first and it shows. I also love that they welcome you 'home' every time you come back.

I checked in early and was told that my room wasn't ready, although there was a room available but it looked at the neighboring hotel. I was tired so took the available room and liked the way my expectations were set. Very smart.

Lobby and rooms are modern and super clean. Don't expect a big room or bathroom, but it's Miami so no need to stay inside... especially with one of the best pool scenes in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard view.

Spent a long weekend here for President's Weekend and have to say it's quite a nice hotel! Kimpton was still putting some of its finishing touches on the place while we were there -- I believe my line was "you can tell Kimpton is still 'moving in' to the place" -- but even with that it was very nice. The rooms are a fine size and comparable to other SoBe places. Staff is helpful without being intrusive. The restaurant very good -- of the breakfast, lunch and dinner we had the lunch was our most preferred. And the highlight was just sitting around the pool and lounging the day away, stealing off to the beach for a walk and just generally relaxing. The pool setup is great and super relaxing. The only ding I'd give the place is that they close down breakfast service shockingly early in my opinion for a party city like SoBe (I believe the kitchen closed at 10:30 a.m.) and they are not joking when they tell you the kitchen is closed and you're out-of-luck getting food. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

Room Tip: Definitely try to score yourself a courtyard view -- better than looking at the side of another buil...

Coincidence worked really well for us as after reading the Trip Advisor reviews just a few days before our US trip I decided to cancel my previous hotel booking to stay at the Surfcomber instead (2 adults and one teenager from Paris, France). What a great decision! The price was above what I intended on spending initially especially since we decided to benefit from the upgrade offered at a great price (could not resist!) but we ended up in a fantastic Suite, very big and beautifully decorated for our 3 nights in Miami.

The location is perfect, minutes away from everything and I absolutely adored the style in which the hotel was renovated (stylish/edgy whilst being also very warm and welcoming).

We had some issues during our stay: noise from next door construction site especially disturbing while having breakfast on the terrasse of Lantao, work performed in the swimming pool while we were there with the pool partly closed and ugly construction fences (it was finished the morning we left), but the experience and high level of service compensated for all these issues. A small advice though: we ended up having to discover how things worked by ourselves in quite a few instances (how to use the in-room bar, how to get our breakfast vouchers for instance) and felt the front desk could be a little more informative at check-in time, so make sure you ask plenty of questions on arrival.

I highly recommend this hotel, Miami Beach is such a great place for holidays and this hotel made the stay even more exciting!

We just returned from a week stay at this hotel ( me and my two sons), with tears in our eyes. The hotel is GREAT. Location of this hotel is perfect, right on the beach and just few blocks from all restaurants and shops. Our room was facing the inner courtyard, and was VERY clean and updated. The staff was very helpful and friendly, BIG thank you to Winnie and Jessica, also to the others at the front desk, (can't remember all the names). You are all professionally trained for your work. Also wanna give a BIG hug to Mickie and Ruben for their good service. Not to mention the staff in Lantao restaurant, for their friendly, good and quick service, thank you. Will definitely stay in this hotel again.
