From the great people at the front desk who realize the customer in front of them is maybe more important than the one on the phone,to the fantasic service at the Lantao Resto (order any of the salads the ribs the fish, thecrab meat eggs bennie ,the french toast..),Domenic is a great waiter to managment constantly making sure everything is exceeding expectations, to the great clean boutique rooms, firm quality beds, fantastic and well maintained pool, great beach access ,primo location, complementary wine at happy hour, reasonable rates, responsive management, fantastic restaraunt....oops i am repeating myself...sorry..cant help it ..its so good it bears repeating..Thanks again Sean Mckeen,Peter, all the rest of managment and Mickey the concierge . providing a great level of service..Kimpton Surfcomber is where chic meets value where attitude is friendliness. PS the beanbag chairs on the sand are beyond cool..thanks again.. and in the words of Arnie.."I'll be back! "

I had a most wonderful time at this property. Great location as it's right on the beach and only a block away from Lincoln Road. Staff couldn't be any nicer or more helpful. Kimpton has done a wonderful thing by taking it over as I heard it was just so-so when it was a Doubletree. Crowd is very mixed which I like. No attitude (which is kind of rare in South Beach).

Surfcomber is a wonderful addition to the Kimpton Properties and South Beach Hotel scene. It has a very relaxed vibe with lots of little details that make this a wonderful choice. The only reason I am giving it four stars is b/c the rooms are small and the price tag is high (though not as high as other similar South Beach hotels).

Putting the size of the room aside (and who goes to South Beach to sit in a room!), this is a fantastic property -- the pool is amazing, staff could not be friendlier, Lantao restaurant is fantastic (and not too overpriced), and the location cannot be beaten. Surfcomber is right on the beach and one block from Lincoln Road.

During our stay we met lots of wonderful people who were visiting Miami from various parts of the U.S. There is something about the complimentary wine hour, complimentary coffee and tea in the morning in the lobby and other little touches (free water by the pool and in the lobby) that make you interact with other people (if you choose to).

The landscaping and design (including the lobby) of this property is really fun. While the room, as I mentioned is small, the bed is super comfortable and the bathroom is very clean with wonderful Etro amenities.

Stay here if you want to enjoy the beach, want a great pool (that is large), and a prime location. To add to all of this, the wonderful staff will simply want to make you extend your stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the construction at the adjoining property. That is likely to continue for...

Ok , the location is really great and the lobby is cool in it's design. But $450 per night only bought a small room on the ground floor looking out on the walkway - really? The bathroom was so tiny, I still marvel that they were able to fit a sink, a toilet and a shower into it.
The pool was dirty and crowded ( ok, it was a Saturday), and the hamburger we ordered from the pool snack menu came with the soggiest bun I ever had - for $18!
Unless you get a great deal, stay elsewhere!

We spent 3 days last week in the hotel. We were on the second floor with a room facing the courtyard.
Pluses:
1. Rooms are nice, clean and quiet. Small but workable. I was worried about construction noise after reading other reviews but that was completely not an issue for us.
2. Dog friendly - we forgot to pack the dog bed and bowls. They sent some right up.
3. Staff is friendly
4. Wine happy hour is nice
5. Ate dinner at Lantao - food was excellent, the service was good and the executive chef came to check on us and introduced himself. The crab spring rolls were really good. My husband had the strip and absolutely loved it. We asked for extra mashed potatoes to go for our dog and they happily obliged us.
Minuses:
1. Coffee offered in the morning in the lobby is lukewarm and not hot
2. Muffins and Danish from restaurant taste like they came from a vending machine.
3. Coffee is not available until 7am on the weekends (probably not a big deal for most people but I had to be up early and sure would have liked some).

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and we were very pleased with the location, the service, the rooms, the pool...everything was excellent. The surfcomber is located right by the beach and it is very clean, trendy, modern! We loved the fact that it is not a gigantic building with not too many rooms. It is 1 block from the shopping area of lincoln road and 5 min walk to the heart of ocean drive. Highly recommended! The only issue we had is the people in the room next door who were really noisy, especially at 3 in the morning...but we contacted the concierge who called them right away.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room so you are neither on the road nor too close to the pool where sometimes there...

First impressions: it's a small clean hotel 4 star max, good location for beach and cafes/restaurants/bars, but the hotel next door is being totally renovated and is very noisy during the day at the pool! This was not mentioned to us at any point during or after booking either written or verbally! Annoying.

On arrival a credit card is required charged at $100/day with the balance returned on check out - fairly standard everywhere..

Staff are generally nice and courteous. But the hotel restaurant/pool restaurant staff are slow and unconcerned generally, so service here is poor.

The pool area is nice and has lots of lounging options; pool/upper decks/gardens etc.. The beach is a stones throw from the hotel, so very good.

The hotel provides free tea/coffee every morning in reception.

The room we had was a courtyard room (ie zero view) it was small but clean and had an electronic safe.

This hotel is too expensive for what it is - we'll stay at the ritz Carlton or Loews next time.
