A friend and I went to Joe's on the recommendation of another friend who had eaten here about 20 years ago. We tried to get there early as we heard it gets packed, but even at 6 PM we were told there would be a wait of "at least an hour" for a table. Luckily, a couple of seats opened up at the bar which was even better because there you can get a half order of claws.

We started with the crab and onion dip, which was very tasty served with house made potato chips. The highlight was the asparagus that was lightly coated in panko bead crumbs, fried and served with shaved asiago cheese and dip. That was so delicious! The half order of claws come as 3 "select" stone crab claws served with a mustard sauce. These are a pretty good size and enough meat for a single person if eaten along with an appetizer. We finished with key lime pie, which was a bit sweet for both of us, but still pretty good.

The claws have an interesting story as they catch the crabs, remove one claw (that will grow back) and throw it back to live on. While a bit disturbing, it is sustainable and the crab can still defend itself with the remaining claw until the other one grows back. I was a bit wary of the mustard sauce but it is more creamy than mustardy so it was a nice balance to the sweetness of the crab meat. They are beautiful claws with the black tips and very tasty, but for a half order of claws, an appetizer, splitting a dessert and a couple of glasses of wine we paid about $100 each.

It was a very nice meal and I would go back, but would skip the dessert and plan on sitting at the bar for a half order of crabs and fried asparagus. It was pricey but worth the experience and the beautiful looking claws. Funny, as we had put our name in for a table before sitting at the bar and even as we walked out an hour and a half later, they still had not called us for a table. Try to get there early or grab a seat at the bar if you want to eat.

We're a late thirties couple from the UK, this was our second time at Joe's, the last time was around 10 years ago.

This visit was on the Saturday of Easter weekend and there was some kind of basketball game on so the place was busy, but we were expecting that.

The friendly guy taking bookings told us an hour and a half for a table (pretty standard I understand) so we had a couple of cocktails and exactly an hour and a half later, when our name was called, we went through to our table. We had a nice chat with the lady that took us to our table.

The atmosphere was great (probably because everyone else had also had a couple of cocktails while waiting). We ordered 5 large stone crab claws, the asparagus and a baked potato - everyone else looked to be ordering a lot more, we saw piles and piles of claws going by but jet lag was messing with our appetite. The food was excellent, really tasty and well cooked. Last time we visited there was some issue with weather conditions (?) which meant the claw meat was sticking to the shells so this is the first time we experienced the joy of teasing a huge claw out of a shell in one piece.

The only down side really was the waiter, he was perfectly efficient and polite but largely charmless, he barely looked at us and certainly didn't smile. Last visit the waiter had a good sense of humour and really made the visit fun for us so I guess I was expecting the same this time.

We paid around $80 for food, $50 for a bottle of wine and $14 for each cocktail so not too expensive. Overall a great experience!

I have eaten at one of the satellite Joe’s in DC, but this was my first original Joe’s experience. Loved the atmosphere, the bar, the professional service, and, of course, the food. The stone crabs are delicious, but so are the sides and key lime pie. Wish I could afford to eat here every night in Miami!

Delicious downs as usual but most importantly the key lime pie which sets the bar at the level nobody has met
