Surprisingly large privately-owned motel in Okeechobee. Between December and March is Okeechobee's high season and rooms are somewhat hard to get and expensive. One of the few budget choices at around $70 is the Flamingo.
It is reasonably well maintained, has a nice pool, and the rooms are spacious (if a little sparsely furnished) and clean. The area is popular with hunters and fishermen so be prepared for some late-night noise when the boys come back from shooting the bull at a local joint. Unfortunately the walls are really thin. The TV reception and CRT is quite bad but the Wifi is good and fast. The breakfast area is really small and seems designed to keep you from hanging around. They only have coffee/juice, cereal, and sugary stuff.
I would have given this a "Good" if they hadn't lost our reservation made the night before via phone. That is pretty unacceptable. Had it been a weekend we'd have been in for a nasty surprise. Also, at the very least I would have expected a decent apology from the owner who was on the front desk when we checked in but even that didn't happen.
There are definitely better motels for the money, just not in Okeechobee.
For restaurants there is a decent Mexican place called "Viejo Pueblo" at the mall about a mile north, next to the Tractor Supply Co.More
