We had an extended family trip to Disney.
The hotel, grounds, pools and especially location were awesome. We even saw Disney fireworks from our porch. A quick bus, monorail or boat ride to the park.
Personally this hotel was a tad "stuffy" for the kids and, in my opinion, didn't give the full Disney feel.
Pools were opened and occupied till late at night. The holiday decorations were nice especially the huge Christmas tree and life size gingerbread house were cool. Definitely a great job creatin the holiday feel.
I would return if only with adults. With kids I would chose a different resort.

I just dislike the entire theme and layout of this resort. The service was minimal, the rooms were mediocre. To be honest, this hotel is one of my least favorites in all of the ones I've been to. And it's on the expensive side! I don't think it's worth the price you pay ...

We went to Disney with a 8yr old and 1yr old and thought it would be nice to use the monorail for the kids. Reality is that if you go to the magic kingdom it's great but if you go to any other park ... not so much. Epcot you have to go to the transfer station and Hollywood/Animal Kingdom you are on the bus. I found it was quicker to take a taxi -- took 7 mins from Hollywood versus 45 on bus and cost only $15.00.
So to the most important point of all this. The Hotel is nice and has great ammenities, however the rooms aren't any bigger or better then Port Orleans, Allstar, Swan, etc. I have been to DisneyWorld every year for last 6 years and stayed in a variety of hotels. If the Grand Floridian is on sale by all means stay there but it's not worth $500 a night. On a side note: the cafe is way too small and never has seats and they take forever to make your food. The pool with waterslide though is awesome.
Stay somewhere nice and take taxis. You can get anywhere you want in about 20 mins in taxis so stay off disney property figure $30 bucks each way. So your transportation cost each day is $60. If you just want to go to Magic Kingdom and Epcot....Grand floridian is fine.

Room Tip: stay away from elevators and make sure your room isn't connecting to another room as sound comes...

We were disappointed in our stay at the Grand Floridian. The room was large, the beds were comfortable. But the water smelled and tasted bad. The fan in the bathroom just couldn't suck the smelly air out of the bathroom after showers and so we would return at the end of the day and the bath still smelled of muddy water. Our particular room had a bad view although there are many others that have beautiful views. We should have asked to change but were just too tired to mess with it (this was the second half of a two part vacation). If I ever returned, I would certainly ask up front to have a view of the water looking toward the Magic Kingdom. That way you could watch the fireworks each night. We couldn't see them where we were but we could hear them. The pools at the Yacht Club are MUCH better. I was hoping to sit in the hot tub and watch my 5 yr. old swim in the pool but they have positioned the hot tub behind a wall so you can't see the pool. And the other pool doesn't even have a hot tub. Our favorite parks are Epcot and Hollywood Studios, so the Yacht Club is a much better choice for us. If you like the Magic Kingdom, then the Grand Floridian would be fine. It just didn't measure up to our expectation that it is the "best resort in Disney".

Room Tip: Ask for a water view room looking toward the Magic Kingdom.

We stayed at the Grand Floridian in the outer building Sugar Loaf (concierge level) building from Feb 7th to Feb 11th. From there we went to the Yacht Club for one night, the Polynesian for one night and requested to go back to the Grand Floridian Sugar Loaf building for 3 more nights. Our first room was on the first floor with two queen beds. It was immaculate. We enjoyed this room very much. We were on the courtyard side and saw the courtyard pool area. The rooms are VERY quiet, the most quiet of any resort we have stayed at. Once we shut the door, that was it for noise. We only got one towel animal (Mickey) the first day, that would be my only disappointment as I so look forward to seeing a towel animal every day after housekeeping is there. When we went to the Yacht Club we were disappointed as the rooms were loud and the concierge offerings were far less. The same at the Polynesian so we requested to come back to the Grand Floridian. We were put in a room with a parlor in a turet! They told me it was "luck of the draw" as they only have 3 of those rooms. What a treat (see pictures). It was much larger and had two TV's and a large balcony. Once again, our room was immaculate and we again received a Mickey towel animal but that was again the only one we received. Ok, the club lounge. It gets a little crowded in the morning but for the most part it was fine. You are able to get beverages all day which is a real plus. That did not happen at the Yacht Club. The food offerings were amazing and worth the extra 100$ per day cost. Breakfast consisted of oatmeal, 3 cold cereal offerings, ham, turkey, croissants, many muffins, carmel rolls, several different breads, bagels, cream cheese, jelly, a large fruit bowl - wow. The snacks during the day consisted of crackers and several dips a long with a great large vege tray that included asparagus. There were some other offerings at snack time also but not "meal" replacement foods so we ate lunch out every day. At "tea time" they put out sconces and at times a devonshire cream desert that was fabulous. From 5-7 at night they had appetizers and we never had to eat dinner as there are several different ones to try and we were full after trying each one. They also had something for the "kids" like chicken nuggets, mini corn dogs etc. Every appetizer was fabulous - a new and exciting treat every night. From 8-10 pm they had deserts and WOW those were our favorites. I tried to try just a couple but they have at least 4 different little deserts to try and they were all excellent. They offer beer and wine also. We were there for our anniversary and received a rose and a bottle of champaigne on our anniversary - pretty cool. We would take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and it is the last stop before the MK so that was nice. On the way back we would take the boat as it always seemed to be there (come every 7 minutes) and we were the first stop. The main building was perfectly immaculate as always, they have a "scent" in the main building that I find quite comforting - I am sensitive to smells but this did not bother me. We enjoyed the shopping in the main building and the piano player and the orchestra in the evenings. I have seen reviews where people said it wasn't very clean etc but those seemed to be the other out buildings and we did not see that at all. The concierge staff were nice but not overly so like at the Yacht club. We didn't have any trouble with any of them but I thought they could have been more outgoing and friendly. There is laundry in all of the out buildings except the Sugar Loaf building where we walked to the next building to do laundry. Having visited Disney many times having close laundry was a nice plus as I like to keep up on our laundry. We have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, All Star sports, music and movies, Port Orleans French Quarter, the Wilderness (which I love very much also), the Polynesian and the Yacht Club. I enjoy the Grand Floridian the most but it is VERY expensive. We only go when we get a discount rate but it is still very expensive. Next year I think we will stay at Port Orleans Riverside again since they are remodeling all of the rooms as it did cost a lot of money to stay at the Grand Floridian. Also, there are plenty of kids/families/couples/seniors. It is not just couples - it is family friendly. They have a conference center there and we did see a lot of business people but that was fine also. This is an incredible resort that I wish I could live at. Alas, I cannot so now we are back to earth.

Room Tip: They have queen and king bed rooms at the Grand Floridian. If either are important to you, make sur...

The Grand Floridian is one of the resorts situated closely to Magic Kingdom. It is Disney's most expensive resort in Florida. The resort has nicely appointed rooms with wonderful views regardless of your room. The resort is a short monorail ride in to the park and offers a spectacular view of the fireworks at the pier. The pools are not spectacular but are nice and convenient. The dining is upscale and is among the best among the resorts. All in all, a very good value in spite of the price.
