As our first night in Disney World, we skipped the madness of the parks and went straight to Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney) for dinner and some shopping. We originally had our dinner booked for 6:30 PM, but we were able to modify it earlier to 6:00 PM with no issue.

All I can say is WOW. From the interactive dancing and presentations to the yummy food, it did not disappoint. The decor is beautiful and colorful without being tacky. Our waiter recommended a dish for us that we could not get enough of! The meat on the half chicken was so tender and portion sizes were perfect

The only downside? The pricing. It is Disney, but paying $22 for half chicken with just plain white rice and black beans as included sides is a bit much. Regardless, I would go again. Definitely worth it.

We have one of these in Miami, so i already know the food is fire. Its a little pricier at Disney Springs but still worth it. There is a live band and dancers. They even bring the kids up to dance, its all wonderful. If its your birthday, the band will sing to you.

We had an incident where someone (maybe a kid) from the top floor spit and it landed on my friend's arm. We told our server, and they quickly got management involved. Although it wasnt a pleasant experience, the management team made sure my friend was happy, provided sanitizer for him to clean himself and comped his meal (we didnt even have to ask for that).

Because Bongos does not take the Tables in Wonderland card, it had been many years since our last visit. But we love Cuban food and wanted to stray beyond our usual dining choices so decided to give Bongos another try. We had a lovely dinner there and enjoyed our meals, but, we had a few issues that take this from a “5” (based only on food) to a “4”.

We had reservations for earlier in the evening but we had finished our park touring in the late afternoon and we were hungry, so we decided to see if the restaurant would take us early and were happy that they did. It was around 5:00 and there were only a few other patrons in the restaurant at that time.

We decided that we wanted to try a number of items from the menu, so ordered so that we could share two appetizers and an entrée. First, the Baked Cuban Empanadas (Empanadas Horneadas ) - “three traditional baked Cuban empanadas served with our BBQ Guava sauce - Roasted Chicken (Pollo Asado), Roasted Pork (Lechon Asado), and Cuban Criolla Minced Beef (Picadillo)”. Our waiter asked which of the three types we wanted and we asked for one of each – this was a great choice as we were able to try them all. They arrived nice and hot and fragrant – all three were well seasoned and went perfectly with the sauce. It was so great to have such a delicious appetizer that was not deep fried. We also split the Avocado Salad – “fresh avocado served with tomato, red onion and diced cucumber, tossed in a cilantro lime vinaigrette”. This was one of the freshest and favorite items of our 8 day trip. The avocadoes were perfectly ripe, the onion added just enough bite, and the vinaigrette holding it all together tasted so bright and citrusy. This dish was a real star. For our entrée, we ordered the Shredded Beef (Ropa Vieja) – “shredded beef slowly cooked in our homemade Estefan Kitchen criolla sauce with onions and peppers. Served with white rice and black beans”. This dish was savory, beefy, perfection. The ropa vieja came with white rice and earthy black beans to pour on top. We also ordered a side of Black Beans & Rice Mixed (Moros), which is a completely different and drier rice and beans experience. Although we were absolutely stuffed when we were done, we happily ate every morsel that we were served.

Overall our server was pleasant, really knew the menu, and kept our iced teas filled. A few issues though – we asked for bread (as is served for free in every other Cuban restaurant we have been in) and he said he would have it sent over, but it was never delivered. But when we got the bill, we had been charged for the non-existent “Classic Cuban Garlic Toast”. So, it looks like free Cuban bread service is not available; would have been nice if he had told us. It would have been a very unpleasant end to the meal to be charged for bread that we thought was free. Once he learned that we had not received the bread in question he took it off the check, but it was still awkward.

So what is our verdict? We so loved the food (and the Pina Colada my husband ordered), but the fact that they do not accept the Tables in Wonderland card makes it hard for us to become regulars. We visit The World at least twice a year and always stay at least a week at a time; we’d make this a regular stop if they accepted TIW. As is, we’ll probably stop by only when we get tired of our usual rotation.

The ambiance is amazing. You can come here for date night or with the children. The food was excellent. We visited with children this time and they were quite entertained; joining a conga line, singing, and dancing! Make sure you ask to be seated in the main dining area. Our host wanted to stick us in the bar area with the children and gave us an attitude when I asked to move. The rest of the staff was pleasant and friendly!
