Okay, this is Disney. So the restaurant has a story and the staff will tell you as you are heading to your table and getting comfortable. You will find yourself in a fine dining atmosphere with a well-appointed bar. The menu balances something resembling an American interpretation of African food with American fine dining. Embrace it and you will be well-fed. It is a tad expensive, but worth it.

The best secret--if you go to the restaurant just for dinner, then you should arrive early and walk around the Zoo. Giraffes and all of their friends are there on parade. Quite a sight!

We visited this past Friday.

The lodge was unforgettable and we felt like we had just landed on another continent. Dining overlooked the hotel and the wildlife savanna!

The hospitality and friendliness was first rate.

The wait staff was professional and prompt and also entertaining.

But the best part was the food; it was just as expect Awesome!!!!

We had the Red blend wine Chilled, we had the chicken flat bread stacked with chicken and veggies. Our entrees were the Sword fish and the halibut!!
Both were extremely flavorful and blended well with the sides.
We finished with the cherry custard with ice cream and fresh cherries.

We would highly recommend and plan to revisit soon.

What a place – wine bottle ‘trees’ lined our private dining area – everything on the menu is influenced by African cuisine and, boy did it look good! Being VIP’s and all, our troop was lucky enough to be treated to a carefully selected set menu. All six courses were perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. Having the taster menu meant that we could all try a bit of everything including some bits that we would not normally choose, should we have been selecting our own dinner. Highlights for me have to be the Grilled Wild Boar Tenderloin appetiser (I had three) – so much flavour in a beautiful little dish and the Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection – the knife slid through the meat like butter and it tasted like a dream. The service was second to none – the staff were very knowledgeable and passionate about the restaurant, the chef came out between each course and chatted us through the history and origins of the ingredients and recipes which showed just how much thought has gone into the menu at Jiko to make it authentic and delicious. I can’t talk about Jiko without mentioning the wine – not just because I am obsessed with the stuff, but also because all the wines on the list were carefully selected from South Africa – lots of which are unavailable to buy outside of the country of origin – they were delicious and I am looking at flights to South Africa to go and visit the vineyards and drink them dry as I type. The Signature restaurants at Walt Disney World are equivalent to two accreditations on the Disney Dining Plan so eating at beautiful restaurants like Jiko is more affordable and easier than you think – just don’t forget to book – this place is popular and busy, and rightly so!

One of the best at WDW, it is fine dining so it comes at a price but the flavors are exquisite and makes for a wonderful special occasion dinner. Wine selection is extensive. Reservations essential, probably not the best idea for children.
