“Great stay all around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2012

This was a business trip where we had to accomodate a group of 36. The stay was very good and patient with all our group members. No one reported any problems. The pool is great for all ages. the rooms were clean. No funny smells. refrigerator and microwave worked well. convenient location for all disney destinations and parks. Rooms have balconies and 2 queensize beds that are spacious.

Breakfast was good for continental. Clean dining room was kept up by 2 staff who were very pleasant and were attentive to guests needs. The housekeeping staff were also accomodating.

Even though they have a sign in the parking lot not responsible for loss or theft they have very good security staff. We had an open trailer with lots of equipment and nothing was stolen. We looked out periodically and saw the security person walking through the lot at various times during the evening. Our only complaint if any is they are located next to a vacant hotel, but I think that is why the security is good.

You are in walking distance of many types of restaurants and sovenier shops. We forgot a bathing suit and across from the hotel the store had an array of them at an extremely reasonable price. The sales tag said $34.99 but paid $19.99. It didn't come apart after each uses. LOL!!!

Room Tip: We had room 324 and liked it because it was on the end of the floor, overlooking the parking lot and...

We had booked a reservation at another hotel in Orland but somehow they had the dates messed up. So we came here and we were greeted by Mary Anne. She was very professional and understanding. She gave us the best rate possible and we stayed there for one night. Then next morning I had spoken to Tim, the manager and he was very nice and attentive to my family and I needs so we decided to stay another night. Also, Miranda gave the same service, excellent as well. They kids had an awesome time and the pool and enjoyed every minute of it. We will definitely stay here on our next vacation.

Room Tip: We was in Room 101. It was very quiet, even with 5 kids!

Front desk staff was friendly and helpful, all other employees rude, unprofessional and ignorant. The lobby looks okay, but it all goes downhill from there. Abandoned hotel right next door, complete with busted out windows and chain link fence all around. Tiny bathroom, paint peeling on walls and ceiling outside room. Sliding door to balcony would not lock. When we checked into the room we could see where the previous guest had placed hangers into the track in an effort to provide some level of security. It would seem that the housekeeping crew would have seen this, and reported the problem but obviously they did not even notice it. Internet service is so slow it is ineffective, even the computer down in the lobby is so slow that it is unusable. Staying more than one night and need more than one laundry bag? Forget it, it won’t happen. I would have thought housekeeping would check and get you another bag each day. The guest heads out to the area attractions for the day and doesn’t even see housekeeping so there is little chance of getting one, and the guest should not have to go looking for it anyway. Don’t go out the door near the pool after hours or in the morning, even just to check it out. The door locks behind you, and the gate to the pool area is locked. The card reader to get inside does not work and you will get trapped in the little area between the gate and the door with no way to get in, but pounding on the door. Having travelled extensively, and stayed in more than 100 different Holiday Inn Express hotels all across this country I can honestly say that this was the biggest disappointment I have ever seen from this chain of hotels. We had a serious enough of a complaint that we contacted the corporate office and that complaint isn’t even mentioned in this report; I’m expecting them to handle this aside from all these other issues. They assured us that they manager of the hotel would contact us as soon as possible, but four days later we have not heard from him, we left him our phone number, but he apparently did not care enough about our concerns to even contact us. Besides what else would he do but apologize? Even then, now four days later (as soon as possible?) his apology would be meaningless. I hope that the front desk staff can get a job elsewhere; they were all helpful and deserve to work at a better place. They likely end up hearing about all the problems when it isn’t their fault. I can in no way recommend this location to anyone, stay somewhere else!

Dear Michigander, Thank you for taking the time to write such an extensive review regarding your stay with us. I am truly sorry for any difficulties you experienced while staying with us. I immediately printed out your comments and have met with our management team to address the deficiencies you encountered. The peeling paint you pointed out has been removed and repainted. Our internet provider has been contacted to research concerns with our bandwidth and speed. The Housekeeping Department has revised its procedures so that guestroom items are replaced in a timely and accurate manner. I was especially concerned about our lack of hospitality shown to you during your stay since our goal is to always make you feel like part of our family.

Incidentally, I want to also thank you for spending nearly 30 minutes on the phone with me to share additional details.

Sincerely,

T. Tonkovich - General Manager, Holiday Inn Express Lake Buena Vista

Spent 3 nights here in March. The location is convenient & close to I4, 192, shopping, attractions & restaurants. The staff was very pleasant & helpful, and the hotel was kept neat & clean. The breakfast items were always restocked and fresh, even with a large sports team staying here. I have stayed at many different places in and around Orlando, and can honestly say that this hotel rates among the better ones.

Went with a friend for a combined business/pleasure trip; stayed 9 nights.

Pros:

STAFF: The staff was very, very nice. When we had two minor problems with the room, a competent and polite maintenance man fixed them immediately. Maid service was excellent, at 5-star level. People at front desk were very nice and helpful, particularly a young man who introduced himself as "Adam" though his nametag said "Francisco".

CLEAN. Extremely clean at all times, in all areas of the hotel. The maids outdid themselves on a daily basis. Frankly, this hotel was cleaner than the nicer and updated Disney properties where we usually stay, and that's saying a lot considering Disney's standards.

BEDS: Very comfy, though a little on the hard side (my back was happy with the bed!).

COFFEE: We were on the Priority Club floor, and there was coffee available, with a great stock of creamers/sugar/good napkins, etc., from early morning until well past midnight. Decent coffee, too.

WELCOME BASKET: Upon arrival, we found in our room (and again this is the Priority Club floor, so I don't know if everyone gets this) a nice selection of goodies including bottled water, chips, cookies, microwave popcorn, granola bar, peanuts, and some other things. Nice touch, very welcoming.

PROXIMITY: If you want to drive (and this was April, the off season), this hotel is about 10 minutes from the Premium Outlets on Vineland. Maybe 20 minutes or so to the airport. Disney properties 10-15 minutes away, including driving around the parking lot. Downtown Disney maybe 5 minutes. Very easy access to highways.

RESTAURANTS: Lots of restaurants (mostly cheap or mid-range chains) in immediate area.

FRIDGE/MICROWAVE: In room, perfectly adequate.

POOL: Smallish outdoor pool area, but again, VERY clean. Nice waterfall slide for kids. Plenty of chairs. Not much shade, though. It would have been nice to sit outside in the shade and enjoy the warmth all afternoon rather than limiting my time due to fear of sunburn/heat exhaustion. Maybe add more umbrellas, etc.

ROOM BALCONY: The room's balcony, with two basic chairs, was nice. The view was nothing great, but it was interesting to be able to step outside and get a good look at everything going on outside and in the distance.

DARK: The curtains were great: thick and heavy. The room stayed nice and dark with no gaps of Florida sunshine--great for sleeping late!

Cons:

NO SHUTTLE: Despite being very near Disney, hotel has no shuttle service. Had to drive rental car through chaos--which is the very definition of this area, even in the off season--and pay for parking, despite being led to believe during reservations that there was a shuttle (not sure whose fault that misunderstanding was, but it was expensive and a hassle. We would have chosen another hotel had we been clear that there was no shuttle).

CLIMATE CONTROL: Air conditioner was old and made multiple noises, as it clicked on and off all night and day. Why? Probably in part because of the significant gaps between the door and doorframe that allowed the warmth of the hallway constantly to leak in. I was COLD in my bed by the air and ended up with 5 (yes, FIVE) extra blankets (which the staff happily and graciously provided) while my friend in her bed closer to the door was way too warm all night. The change in temp from one part of the room to the other was so significant that I feared there might be a tornado in the middle!! We travel together multiple times every year, and this was very extreme.

BREAKFAST: Yes, they offer the standard Holiday Inn breakfast every morning until 9:30. Unlike most other Holiday Inns (and I've stayed in them all over the country), this one closed and locked the breakfast area every morning. Every other one has had oatmeal packets, hot chocolate packets, coffee, tea, maybe some fruit, etc., sitting out for awhile after breakfast, and sometimes all day. Not here, though that may be due to the fact that they are in the world's busiest tourist area and they would take a loss by leaving this stuff out? I don't know, but I really wanted an apple, and that was out of the question.

VENDING/ICE MACHINES: The vending machine on our floor was unplugged. When my friend was sick in the night, I had to go traipsing all over the hotel to find white soda, and when I did it was $2.75. Considering the area, maybe this is the norm, but I found that to be kind of a lot for a Sprite from a Holiday Inn. Also, we heard another guest complaining loudly that she had been unable to find an ice machine that would dispense ice during the night on any of the 7 floors.

Overall, this hotel is mediocre. Depending on your expectations, wants and needs, overall it could be fine for you. We did not find it to be comparable to other properties in this chain, however. The helpful staff and the supreme cleanliness did make up for some of the more disappointing aspects.

Room Tip: I think the Priority Club floor was better than the rest, logically.

Spent 2 nights.
What I loved about this hotel was the location.
The hotel istelf is the typical HIE hotel like, but service was poor and breakfast a disaster.
But who really cares ... there are so many decent dining options all around.

What I loved about this hotel was the location, close to everything you might want to see and go to...dining places are plentiful and very close..outlet shopping extremely close..Downtown Disney, entrance to the WDW parks, Universal, Sea World, etc. Our king-sized bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows, the mini fridge and microwave just perfect for my morning coffee, free wi-fi access in room and free parking, what more can you ask for?? Our room was made up and towels changed very early every day. They even accept pets for a nominal fee. I would most definitely recommend this place to the budget conscious traveler.

Room Tip: Visitors traveling with pets are usually lodged on second floor
