I have been traveling to Gilmore Resorts since 1980. First with Porters Court, then the Impala and have now made my way to Driftwood for the 4th year in a row and i must continue to say. Not a lot of foo-foo stuff at this hotel, but if you like clean rooms, excellent staff and a warm family friendly atmosphere make Driftwood Lodge your place to stay.

Love where the Driftwood is located but let's be serious here, it is not a Ritz Carlton. Extremely outdated, think 1985. But clean! Spacious rooms. Do NOT ask for a room on the beach, they are damp and tiny and not worth it. We stayed one night on a beach level room, beautiful view but yucky rooms. Floor felt dirty and damp. Moved to the 1st floor (street level) and it was roomy, clean and bright. I would have loved to have had a room overlooking the sundeck rather than the pool...not the most attractive view most of the time.
It has a fmaily feel to it. Would have worked much better with a larger group taking up a few rooms next to each other so you don't feel like you are having dinner with strangers on your "front porch" . Amazing peanut butter fudge, popcorn, and movie nights! Right on the strip, front of the hotel from the street looks horrible, I was ready to change my mind. Worth it though for the walking distance to Pier Park, walk to the beach in mere steps, gorgeous sundeck where I read in the afternoons with a nice breeze. Small pool and can get crowded quickly. We got out and about enjoying dining OFF of the strip and making our way towards St. Andrews, which is where we will stay next time. Make a trip to Shell Island too!
All in all, average stay, decent place to lay your head, a bit of an "ecclectic" group of people make up the clientele, and I hated being anywhere near smokers, which enjoyed their front porch area a little too much.
Stay here if you are looking for a decent place right on the beach that is not a condo.

Room Tip: Avoid beach level rooms at all cost! Stay on street level and not across from pool, shoot for sunde...

I grew up staying at this hotel during spring break and summer time. As a child and teenager, it was just what we wanted. Now that I have a family of my own, it's a little sub-par for our taste. The high rise condos next door and on the strip tend to cater more towards the spring breakers and college students. I think I am ready to advance to a resort or condo further down the beach because the rooms are very outdated and the traffic is terrible. Good beach location. Too much money for what you get...

Room Tip: Book the largest room you can afford. They are all SMALL....

We stayed at here for 3 nights - GREAT location. We walked to Pier Park everyday! The rooms are clean and very roomy! However, the bathroom is very small and does not have a vanity to sit anything. The parking is very minimal and tight - we were in a SUV and depending on the space - stuck out in the road. Staff is very friendly and helpful! The water was also a brownish color - claimed to be in the entire city as they had just moved to a new system. Beachs are beautiful - just make sure you are on the 2nd floor or beach or you wont have a view - palm trees have grown up and the views are limitied to the beach!

Room Tip: Stay in cbana on beach or 2nd level - there is no elevator!

My husband and I stay at Driftwood Lodge 3 or 4 times a year. We go off-season when the weather is still warm but crowds are down. It has a home away from home feel. We love being able to walk to the pier and Pier Park without getting in a car to fight traffic.

this was the 2nd time we spent a week there, and as always we love it. If you like a smaller, family owned atmosphere, kind of place this is it! We will be back again next year!. We are so glad our friends who have been going there for 20 years turned us on to it!

Room Tip: I don't think there is a bad room anywhere! we always get the suites
