Perhaps I'm just spoiled by the trails in the Treasure Coast, but we stumbled upon this one, when our GPS led us astray, trying to find another trail. This one was a great substitute.
I was able to hike the trails here before the summer rains came. Trails are well marked some run beside canals inhabited by alligators of various sizes. You can see cattle in the distance along with lots of birds. Hiking in May was hot and you need to bring along water. There are many unique trees and plants in these hammocks and it demonstrates how the cattle removed a lot of this vegetation to graze.
The Hammock Preserve is a beautiful and peaceful area off Carlton Road. If you go in the summertime it is best early in the morning. You'll see many species of beautiful butterflies and birds.
a great park to utilize photography shots. beautiful greenery and some water on a canal. of course be careful of the bugs, and mosquitos. you can hike thru the woods and also have a picnic.
I have been on several ranger led hikes here. some hammock areas and reclaimed pastures. Mostly natural area, no facilities.
Nicely laid out trails, but parts may flood and/or be very soggy in wet season. Ranger-led hikes offered on occasion, by reservation. Location is a bit out of the way, and be sure you finish up before nightfall. Lots of varied flora and birds, and occasional mammal.
