Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Savannas Preserve State Park encompasses close to 7,000 acres of natural area. The Savannas contains the largest, most ecologically intact stretch of freshwater marsh in Southeast Florida. Our main entrance, located off of Walton Road, offers visitors a number of ways to explore the park. There, we have an Education Center (Open Thurs-Mon, 9 am to 5 pm), a Canoe Launch and several miles of trails. Most of our trails are multi-use and are open to pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrians. The Park has several other entrances including one on Jensen Beach Blvd, which connects to the Main Entrance via a 5.5 mile trail, and an entrance off of Savannah Road that features the Hawk's Bluff Trail. The Park also has two remote locations: Evans Creek Canoe Launch and Miller Property. Evans Creek is located in the 8900 Block of US1 in Port St Lucie. Miller Property is located at the end of Lewis Street in Fort Pierce. This area features several miles of trails.

My wife, a couple of friends and I drove across the state to do some geocaching in the Melbourne area, and stopped by this park this morning. This is a really lovely park, with the walking trails and pier to look out over the marsh. My only issue was that the ranger station was not open on Mondays and Tuesdays, so my wife could not get her FSP passport book stamped.

Its a great place to take your leashed pup or just go for a nice hike. There are kayak launches for the water folks too. The best place to start your hike is to park out by the launches and walk to the trail head. The walk from the road to there is very hot and sorta boring...:) There are lots of things to see in there, just look for them. My pup saw her first deer in there...she was not the bravest.

It certainly feels like you are the only one there! So much beautiful space to enjoy, the sky, the water, the trails, the wildlife, trees & shrubs. A very natural state park. Unhurried, no crowds, quiet....you just hear the wind blowing and the birds calling to each other. A wonderful nature center invites you in with many exhibits, pretty canoe launch area, two covered picnic areas at canoe launch. Very scenic park.

Lots of plants to see. Saw many birds and even 3 wild hogs in the distance.
You do not have to walk very far to see many things.

Great way to see Florida for it's natural beauty and undeveloped area. This was my second visit. We were hoping to kayak or canoe but due to the lack of rain and long dry spell we were unable to. The marsh is self contained. To the other reviews who complained they
could not walk the trail due to water across it...this is Mother Nature! Sometimes very wet and other times very dry. There were many many wading birds to view and we even came upon a snake on the trail! The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly! It's free to stop at the visitor center. We paid $3 to drive our car to the canoe launch/parking area. Take a few minutes to stop if you are in the area!
