Charming Historic Resort steps away from old town St. Augustine

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 17, 2024
The Collector ranks as possibly my best resort experience. My wife and I chose St. Augustine as our destination for our 20th anniversary, and this kid-free resort checked off every part of our list. Because of its small size, every member of the staff was highly attentive to all our needs. We arrived on a Monday evening following a 14-hour drive from Kentucky, and the valet met us at the front desk to walk us and our luggage to our room. The next morning (and each morning), we were greeted with a breakfast of yogurt, scones, bagels (with salmon and capers), breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, and cereal. We enjoyed breakfast outside near the gardens, but we were also welcome to take a tray to our room. We took the tour of the historic property and learned about the great love which the owner and the staff put into the property.

We spent the week rooming in the upstairs at Dow House. This historic home has been lovingly restored, and we felt very comfortable during our stay. A few free soft drinks were in the fridge when we arrived, along with several snacks and complimentary drink bottles on the counter. During high sun, we spent time in the room and enjoyed the sitting area and the modern amenities (i.e. air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a hot shower). The only downside I felt at the property (which is due to preference) is that I felt the bed was too soft. However, it was well appointed with soft pillows and luxurious linens.

The Collector is situated in a residential neighborhood (making it a quiet retreat) and about 2 blocks south of touristy St. George Street. The Castillo de San Marcos was a 15-minute walk. St. Augustine Fish Camp is 6 blocks west. And we picked up our car from the valet one morning of our stay and drove 20 miles to Mary Street Beach. Picking up and dropping off the car with the valet was a very smooth process.

If you are taking an adult retreat to St. Augustine, I highly recommend The Collector.

Room Tip: Take the historic tour early into your stay. The valet parking lot is off site, so be sure to...

Excellent service, very comfortable, clean and quiet, yet walking distance to many restaurants and activities. Historic homes full of charm, beautiful gardens with relaxing pool and nighttime ambient lighting. Fire pits and delicious cocktails. *No screaming children.

Room tip: Take the property tour. Complimentary breakfast is very good considering limited kitchen. This hotel’s location is key.

Our visit to The Collectors Inn was a delightful experience. The staff is gracious and the grounds and houses comfortable and inviting. The beds are comfortable. The Inn is located in a quiet area and an easy walking distance to town . The Inn history tour is interesting and adds to the ambiance of the area.

This was our 4th time at the Collector Inn - the only place we like to stay in St. Augustine. Why? The rooms, the vibe, the pool, the grounds, the location, the lovely staff. It is hard to beat. We have stayed in 4 different buildings and the beds are always very comfy with good pillows, great showers and privacy. Come away refreshed and relaxed.

Room tip: We bring our own favorite drinks and get ice buckets from the bar next to the pool!

The Collector was great! We loved the surroundings and the property was so beautiful and lush with flowers and trees and walkways. The different buildings gave the property character. The boutique room was small in the Spear House but we managed. Complimentary snacks and water in The room was a nice touch. When checking in we were met by Rebecca. She greeted us with a glass of Sangria so delicious and refreshing She was very helpful with suggestions for dinner and activities. She helped with the purchase of ghost tour tickets Everyone there was so kind and helpful always with a smile. Also breakfast was delicious!! A great stay!!

Dear Filbert10,
I am so sorry we were unable to meet your expectations on your recent visit.
Being a small inn (30 rooms) the valet sometimes gets overwhelmed when 7 guests all arrive at the same time. This is not the "norm" but can happen.
Our sincere apologies.
