We visited this B&B during the Christmas holidays. The location is great and the bed was comfy. But our room was uncomfortably hot the entire length of our stay. We told Scott, the owner, repeatedly, but it was never taken care of. We were forced to sleep with the ceiling fans on and the windows open every night (and it was still hot). And Scott wasn't a very good host (we saw his wife only briefly when she brought us towels). He always seemed rehearsed, nervous and in a rush. And breakfast here was unusual -- and not in a good way. After reading so many glowing reviews, we expected much more. There are too many wonderful B&B's in St. Augustine for us to return to this one.

Room Tip: If you like a cool and comfortable room, choose another B&B

We have visited St Augustine 7 of the 9 years since we've been married. We've stayed at the Ramada historic 5 times and at a time share out near the beach last year. We have stayed in B&Bs in Savannah, Amsterdam, Ireland, and Scotland. The Southern Wind met our needs and price point. Our room was the Veranda. The bed provided excellent comfort and a good sleep all 3 nites. Bath is small and tub is a big step up to get in (or out) Bring deod. spray, as the "fan" does not exhaust. We've stayed in nicer places, but at twice the price. We really enjoyed the Veranda.... sitting in the rocking chairs and watching/listening to the horse and buggys and ghost tours walk by. Would have liked bacon and eggs for breakfast, but offerings were good. Great location, but the street sweeper will wake you at 8:30 am if you are not already up! We recommend.

Stopped in St. Augustine Thanksgiving weekend. There was an art show in town so we were lucky to find an opening at this place. It's a nice old building with a pretty good view and well located. The owner was really nice and breakfats was excellent. St. A is a neat little town to visit, and if you do, you won't be sorry you stayed at the Southern.

It was really beautiful in St. Augustine the weekend we stayed here. We arrived late and Scott and Donna had everything ready for us. Breakfast on the porch in the cool air was delicious. We stayed in a very nice room with a private entrance and a relaxing hot tub, which was wonderful after a day of walking around the town. We love the Southern Wind and will definitely stay here again in the future. K&A, from Ft. Meade, Florida

Our first visit to St Augustine butnot our last. We selected Southern Wind after carefully doing a map search beforehand. We like to park the car and do most of our adventure on foot. Southern Wind is so close to everything and certainly close to some of the best resturants...our favorite was the Florida Cafe across the street from the Inn. We stayed in the Porcelin Room, comfy bed with plenty of room. Did not hear any noise from other rooms which can sometimes be annoying. Also met some new friends from Virginia during our morning breakfast ' which were very nicely prepared. Thanks Southern Wind We'll be back for sure!

Room Tip: You can enjoy breakfast outside on the veranda or in doors. Very nice cheesy egg casserole!

Sept. 20, & 21, 2011: My husband and I just spent 2 nights at the Southern Wind. Not what we expected. We had always heard that the owners were charming, well we when we arrived we didn't know where to park, (we have a mini van) and the entrance to the back parking lot was very narrow. We parked at the front entrance, and I went to the front door rang the bell, and was greeted by Scot with, is there something I can do for you. I said we were here to check in and wanted to know where we could park. Scot said you must be very early, and that our room was not ready, but we could park in the back. When my husband and I came back around to the entrance Scot then said hi I'm Scot, you must be the Weber's, and said to come in. He got a map out of the area, and was going to show it to us, when I said is there a rest room I could use real quick, and Scot said is it an emergency? I said well no, then Scot said well there are public rest rooms down the street (about 2 blocks away) that we could use. I have never stayed any where that didn't have a rest room on the premises.
It seemed like no one was ever around to answer any questions, and we found out that if we needed to talk to someone we had to go back out on the porch and ring the front door bell to get his attention to come down stairs. The only time we saw Scot or his wife Donna, was when we went for breakfast, The first morning we had to ask for some Decaf coffee, and for breakfast Scot served a small bowl of fruit, and a small piece of egg casserole, (fine if your not a big eater), Scot then said good morning, and then was gone. At 4 PM. they put out some cookies, Ice tea and wine, we never saw them again until the next morning. At 4 PM, the next day cookies again, only this time Scot and Donna both had left, and took the evening off. They did leave a note on the inside of the door on how they could be reached if needed, or if it was a emergence then call 911. As far as being hospitable, on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give them about a 3, and no recommendation.. I still can't believe they told me to go up the street to use the public rest rooms.

Room Tip: We stayed in the garden room, it had a private entrance, but It did not have an indoor entrance from...

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the Southern Wind over Labor Day weekend. It was our first B&B experience, and we loved it! As soon as we arrived (we parked directly behind the building), the innkeeper, Scott, greeted us at the door and showed us a map of some local places, as this was our first time in St. Augustine. He then helped carry our bags to our room (we stayed in the "Rosita").

I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the room....bigger than I expected and had lots of charm! Hardwood floors, king bed with a pretty quilt, original woodwork, etc. The home, which we were told is over 100 years old, has been fairly well preserved so it's pretty neat to see some of the old detail. Bed was comfortable and everything was clean. The bathroom sink area was a bit small and needed some updating but everything worked just fine. One minor annoyance was that the most accessible outlet was in the bathroom, so that's what we used for the phone charger, hair dryer, camera charger, etc. There were other outlets in the room, but they were hard to reach (hidden behind the bed and other furniture).

Being summer, the weather was very hot outside, but our room stayed cool with a window A/C unit and ceiling fan. I love a nice, cold room to return to after a day of sightseeing so this was a big plus! The inn was very quiet, we never heard any noise from other guests, though this might depend on which room you're in (ours was toward the back).

The Southern Wind also offers free wifi to guests and they have an array of DVD's to borrow, at your convenience. We usually saw the innkeeper on our way in/out of the building, but if it was afterhours, they always posted contact information, should any issues arise. They actually live on the premises, so although we never needed assistance with anything, I imagine it'd be very easy to get in touch with them.

Breakfast was good both mornings, served up by Scott himself. OJ, coffee, yogurt/granola, muffins and other breads, and a hot dish as the main meal (we had an eggy/cheesy quiche-like meal the first day, and a blueberry blintz with whipped cream the next), both were very good. Also take advantage of the daily offering of wine, iced tea, and cookies around 4pm. We took our snack to the 2nd floor veranda and sat in the rocking chairs...very relaxing and a great place to watch the horse-drawn carriages pass by.

The location was AWESOME...we never once had to drive our car, and went to several nearby restaurants, pubs, museums, etc....all within easy walking distance. We highly recommend The Floridian restaurant (across the street from the inn), and the Prince of Wales British Pub (on Cuna St).. Get the fish and chips and a pint....YUUUMMM!!

We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Southern Wind Inn to anyone looking for a charming, quiet place to stay...steps away from all of the attractions of downtown St. Augustine.

Room Tip: go during the week or non-holiday weekends
